Fundraising Poker Classic.

Lorrha Lord Mayor candidate Joe Dolan has formed a fundraising committee to get his Lord Mayor campaign up and running. At a recent meeting in The Friars Tavern Mark Mannion was elected chairman Ann Coughlan Secretary with Willie Rigney and Eugene Kennedy joint treasurers. The supporters who attended on the night were Michael Young Trish O’Donoghue Micheál Killeen Sean Lambe. Joe’s committee are organising a Poker Classic which will take place on Friday November 27th. in The Friar’s Tavern Lorrha. Tickets are available from all of the above committee members. Another meeting will take on Wednesday night 11th. in Pat Hough’s Pub. Anyone interested in helping Joe is welcome to come along. This effort is to raise funds for the development of Friars Park in the village. Lorrha Development Association appeal to all to support this fundraising venture by Joe and his committee.

Free Pre-School Year.

Little Feet Playschool are now taking names for January 2010 at Bredagh Lorrha. Children can now be enrolled for playschool for ECCE free pre-school year before they start National School. During these sessions the children will be involved in many activities such as structured play Circle time which includes numbers alphabet Irish Rhymes songs etc. Cooking Jigsaws free play books and stories Art and craft Sand / water outdoor play etc. etc.. If you would like more information on how the free pre-school year works please contact Charlene at (087) 7783347 or (090) 9747885.
If you are registering your child you are advised to do so early as places are limited.

Music Session.

On the second Thursday of each month a music session takes place in The Last Chance Rathcabbin. The next session will take place this Thursday night 12th. from 9.30p.m. with Pat Barton Ann O’Donoghue Tony Molloy and friends. You are invited to come along and join in.

Well Done Tom.

Congratulations to Tom Lambe Rathcabbin who was the recipient of a Sean Gael award last week-end. He first played for Lorrha seniors in 1939 before the team was regarded back to Intermediate in 1940. Tom was a key player six years later when Lorrha won the Intermediate title. From being a forward in that team Tom played at right wing back in 1948 when Lorrha won the North Senior title for the third time. He continued playing well into the 1950s and was also a selector on various Lorrha teams. Tom was also well known as a athlete of considerable renown and was a member of the Lorrha Junior team that won the County Championship in 1944. Tom celebrated his 91st. birthday last August and is still a regular attendee at Lorrha games. Well done Tom.

Tea Dance Reminder.

Afternoon Tea Dance in the Town Hall Portumna on Sunday 15th November from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. admission €8 music by Richie Burke and Pat Conlon. All are welcome.

Lorrha Development.

A meeting of Lorrha Development Association will take place on Thursday night November 19th. at 8.00p.m. in St. Ruadhan’s Community Hall. All are welcome to attend.
A work morning has been arranged for Friday morning 13th. from 10.00a. The purpose of this is to lift bulbs for storage over the winter month’s and plant winter bulbs for flowering in early spring time. Mary Louis and Liz have already made a start but they would like some help. Anyone interested can meet Liz and Mary outside the hall where they will be leading this work morning.

2010 Parish Calendar.

The 2010 parish calendar is on the final leg of it’s printing journey and will be ready to go on sale within the next couple of weeks in lovely time to post to loved one’s in far away places for the Christmas season. Lorrha Development offer their thanks to all who supplied photo’s for use in the calendar which is jam packed and which will mark the 25th. anniversary of the calendar. Unfortunately space didn’t permit the use of all the photo’s and some had to be held over for the 2011 edition.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Martina Duggan Portland on the occasion of her 50th. birthday. Martina celebrated the occasion with her family over the week-end. Well done Martina.
