Joe Dolan Is Lorrha’s New Lord Mayor.       See Photo Gallery for plenty pics of the night.

Yes it’s official at a function in Lorrha Hall on Saturday night last Joe Dolan was declared the winner of the Lorrha Lord Mayor Campaign and was presented with the chain of “office”.
All three candidates Theresa Dunne Walker David Power and Joe Dolan received presentations of inscribed glassware to mark the occasion and in recognition of their hard work and dedication to raising a total of €28611.62 for the village.
Lorrha Development Association offer their thanks and appreciation to all three people Theresa David and Joe for agreeing to allow their names go forward and for taking on this difficult task not forgetting for a moment their hard working committee’s who willingly went out and raised this money at this very difficult economic time and all three deserve great praise not just from the organising committee but from everyone who care about the village for raising this money which will be used to develop/renovate the park in Lorrha. Their spirit of pride in the village is to be admired by all. All three candidates formed a committee of people around them to help fundraise and all of these people gave endless hours planning events and seeing them through. There was a lot of hard work involved and we should appreciate the efforts that so many people made to make this fundraiser such a success and where all three candidates put their shoulder to the wheel and worked so hard. Thanks is also extended to the many people who dug deep into their pockets to support all of the fundraising events over the last number of month’s as without your support the venture would not have been possible. The park in the village when completed will be for the benefit of all.
Lorrha Development Association would like to offer thanks also to the two Gardai who acted as returning and security officers making sure that everything was in order on the night. The tense and nervous candidates with the equally tense crowd that turned out to the local hall on Saturday night waited anxiously for the result and as Garda John Collins confirmed the total figure to the M.C. Mary Coen the formalities were dealt with first. Lorrha Development Treasurer Nancy White carried out the draw and the winner of the first prize of €200 was won by Dan Kennedy of Lorrha second prize of €150 went to Dialla C/o of David Power and the last prize of €100 was won by Paula Flanagan Banagher. Secretary Louis McCormack then took the stand and thanked all candidates and everyone for their support throughout the campaign. With the formalities over and the tension mounting M.C. Mary Coen announced the winner who raised €19043.27 to be that of Joe Dolan and a loud cheer went up by Joe’s committee and supporters. Joe then came forward and was congratulated and presented with the Lord Mayor Of Lorrha Chain by the Chairperson of Lorrha Development Association Rose Mannion. On taking the microphone Joe thanked everyone who supported him and complimented Lorrha Development on their ongoing work and on this idea for fundraising. He said it was the efforts of his fellow candidates Theresa and David that motivated him to go that bit further and he thanked both of them for that. Joe is now the Mayor of Lorrha for the next two years when after that the chain returns to the organising committee Lorrha Development Association and the process is repeated all over again. So all of you who didn’t get a chance for whatever reason to run for Lord Mayor of Lorrha this time you can now be planning ahead for the next round!!!
