Lorrha Development Association sincerely thank Bob and Liam Grover of the USA for their very generous donation of €100 towards the renovation / development of Friar’s Park in Lorrha Village.
Bob and Liam have followed the progress of the recent Lord Mayor fundraising venture on this web site and have been so impressed by all the hard work invested by so may people that they decided to make a contribution.

Many thanks to you both and may you enjoy and spend many happy hours in Friars Park when you are both in Lorrha again. Thank you from all of us in Lorrha Development Association.

Annual General Meeting.

Lorrha Development Association will hold their Annual General Meeting on Thursday night April 15th. in Lorrha Hall at 8.00p.m. If you want to hear the truth about development and improvements in the village this is the place to hear it. Likewise if you think you can make a difference and have constructive ideas that will help to enhance our village then this is the place to be as many hands make light work when a community are working together for the one good. All are welcome.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations is extended to Bridget Grover Lorrha who celebrated her 50th. Birthday last week-end and congratulations is also extended to Sean O’Meara Redwood who celebrated his 18th. birthday last week-end. Both Bridget and Sean celebrated the occasion with family and friends in The Friar’s Tavern and all enjoyed a great night. Well done to you both.

Angling Club News.

In the second round of the Lorrha / Rathcabbin Angling club Pete Boylett competition which was held on a warm sunny Sunday last no trout were caught due to the warm and calm conditions. The third round will take place in a couple of weeks time. Watch this space for details. Please take note that membership is due. €10 for Seniors €5 for under 16’s and O.A.P’s. Monies to be paid to James Heenan Adrian Bouchier or Pat O’Meara.

Bank of Ireland Achievement Awards:

Congratulations to Mary Cleary Aoife Kennedy Ciara Kennedy Brid McClearn and Aoife O’Hara who received their Regional Certificates from the Bank of Ireland at the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway recently. Three of the five girls are from the parish and are pupils in Portumna Community School. The girls won this award for their dedicated service to St. Dympna’s Centre – they organised the TY rota for visiting the centre and providing help to the staff teaching the Enabled Learning students swimming bowling and horse-riding. The TY students demonstrated their collaborative teamwork skills and made a very positive contribution to the local community by enriching the lives of the enabled students. Well done girls.

Camogie Club Fundraiser.

Lorrha Camogie club are holding a major fundraiser in Mahers Friars Tavern on Saturday night 24th. April. There will be many super prizes on offer on the night including a week-end break for two voucher for the Ferry Inn signed Galway Kilkenny and Dublin jersey’s. For auction on the night will be a 125 year Tipp jersey. Munster and Ireland Rugby jersey’s. There will be a table quiz also held on the night and a disco afterwards. Cards are on sale at €2 per line and can be bought from any of the players and the committee. The girls are putting in a big effort for this night and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Portumna Players Present Sive

The Portumna Players spring production of “Sive” by John B Keane will take place in the Town Hall Portumna this coming week-end on Friday 16th Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th April at 8.30pm. Sive was originally staged in 1959 by the Listowel Players and became an instant success it has survived the test of time so if you want an enjoyable night out come along and see how Portumna Players stage this Keane Classic.
