As part of An Taisce’s Spring clean up Lorrha Development Association have organised a clean up

of the village and the approach roads for this Thursday evening April the 22nd. Meeting outside the

hall at 6.00p.m. Bags and gloves will be provided. If this time is not suitable do come along at

whatever time suits you best and if the date is not suitable please call (086) 8647166. So come on

be proud of your place and lets get working.

Lorrha Development Association.

The Annual General Meeting of Lorrha Development Association drew a good crowd to the local hall on Thursday night last where the work and progress around the village over the last twelve month’s was discussed. The chairperson complimented all those who had helped to keep the village looking it’s best and remarked that the onus is on everyone to keep it looking good. However dissatisfaction was expressed with regard to our local Co. Council who she felt had neglected the group. Both the chairperson and secretary once again praised the three people who were involved in the Lord Mayor fundraiser for their hard work at raising funds for the renovation / development of Friars Park in the village. Both the outgoing secretary Louis McCormack and Treasurer Nancy White gave full and detailed reports on the years activities.
On show was a draft set of drawings for the new Friars Park and this was of great interest to those who attended and which was also adopted at the meeting to go forward for planning.
The annual fun day was also discussed with a provisional date pencilled in for early June. This will be discussed further and in more detail at the next meeting on Tuesday night April 27th. at 8.00p.m. If you have any ideas for the fun day and can help in whatever way please do come along to this meeting.
Officers elected for the forthcoming year are: Chairperson: Rose Mannion Vice Chairpersons: Mary Walsh and Liz Hussey Secretary: To be appointed at next meeting where in the meantime Louis McCormack will continue to do caretaker Secretary Assistant Secretary: Treasa Dillon Treasurer: Louis McCormack Works Manager: John Houlihan.
Also elected at this meeting was the officers for the Residence committee which is a sub committee of the Development and they are: Chairperson: Carmel Lewis Houlihan Vice Chairperson: Bridget Grover Secretary: Carmel Slevin Treasurer: Mary Walsh.

As part of An Taisce’s National Spring clean programme groups of people who care about their area meet all over Ireland to help keep their place looking well. You are asked to come out and join with Lorrha Development where many hands will make light work.

Golfing.

The next RAGS golf outing is in Nenagh on Saturday the 24th April . Tee time is from 9.30 to 11am.

Parent Toddler & Baby Groups

The Community Mothers Programme North Tipp Community Services provides the following sessions each week:
Rathcabbin Parent Toddler & Baby Group meets each Tuesday morning from 11am – 12.30pm in Rathcabbin Hall. All welcome.
Lorrha Parent Toddler and Baby Group meets each Thursday morning from 10.30am – 12pm in Lorrha Hall.All welcome.

Angling Club News.

The final round of the Pete Boylett Memorial Perpetual Cup (Trout) will take place this coming Sunday the 25th. April from 2.00 to 6.00p.m. from Portumna fishing club grounds. Please take note that membership is due. €10 for Seniors €5 for under 16’s and O.A.P’s. Monies to be paid to James Heenan Adrian Bouchier or Pat O’Meara.

Remember To Save Energy.

The children of Redwood School have some advice for you if you want to save money and save energy:
Close windows and doors when heat is on. Close the blinds at night to keep in the heat.
Only turn on the light if necessary. Turn off the lights when leaving the room and turn them off when it is bright. Reduce the use of appliances try to do more by hand.
Dry your clothes on the clothes line don’t use the tumble dryer as much. Turn off computers and printers when you are not using them.
Turn off the T.V. the washing machine and the cooker and DON’T leave them on standby. Turn off the immersion early. Go around at home and turn off the switches that are left on. Turn down the thermostat when the room is too hot or when the room is above eighteen degrees. Have shorter showers. You can save money and save energy! This message comes to you from the green schools committee.

Art Exhibition.

Portumna library is hosting a children’s art exhibition of creations by the students of "Bramble Art" from 21st – 30th April. All welcome.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Tracy Hogan Ballymacegan who celebrated her 21st. birthday last week-end. Tracy celebrated the occasion with family and friends in the Friars Tavern Lorrha.
Congratulations is also extended to Bernie Naylor Rathcabbin who celebrated her 50th. birthday also last week-end. Bernie was treated to a surprise bash with family and friends in The County Arms Hotel Birr. Well done to both girls on their respective birthday celebrations.

Fundraiser Reminder.

A reminder that Lorrha Camogie club are holding a major fundraiser in Mahers Friars Tavern on Saturday night coming the 24th. April. There will be many super prizes on offer on the night including a week-end break for two voucher for the Ferry Inn signed Galway Kilkenny and Dublin jersey’s. For auction on the night will be a 125 year Tipp jersey. Munster and Ireland Rugby jersey’s. There will be a table quiz also held on the night and a disco afterwards. Cards are on sale at €2 per line and can be bought from any of the players and the committee. The girls are putting in a big effort for this night and your support would be greatly appreciated.
