Late Dinah McGahey.

The sudden and unexpected death took place on Sunday June 6th. in Spain of Dinah McGahey nee Bourke Blackpool England and formerly Graigue Rathcabbin.
Daughter of the late Paddy and Theresa Bourke Graigue Dinah who was just 51 years of age grew up in Rathcabbin and after a number of years in the Pub Trade in Birr she and her family moved to Blackpool in the early 90’s. This was to become her home where she continued to work in the pub trade and rear her 3 children.
Four years ago Dinah and her husband Ken moved to Spain where they successfully ran a pub in the tourist area of Torremolinos. However Blackpool remained her home and she and Ken were due to move back to England on June the 9th but sadly Dinah passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning before she could return.
She is survived by her husband Ken sons Des and Niall daughter Sarah daughters in law grandchildren her brothers Eamon Richard Gerard and Brian sisters Marian Nuala Josie and Angela. brothers in law sisters in law aunts uncles nephews nieces relatives and friends to whom sympathy is offered.
Funeral takes place in Blackpool on Thursday the 17th June. Mass for the repose of her soul will take place in Our Lady Queen Of Ireland Church Rathcabbin on Saturday the 26th June at 12.00pm. May she rest in peace.

Gratitude.

Lorrha Development Association wish to thank everyone who helped in whatever way with the family fun day held on Sunday last. Unfortunately the weather was miserable and the rain when it did fall fell in bucketfuls but without your support the day just simply couldn’t happen. The winner of the popular duck race was 1st. Fiona Coen (Rush Co. Dublin) 2nd. Patrick Reddin (Cullagh) and in 3rd. place was Marie O’Meara (Super Valu Portumna). There was three winners plucked out of the hat in the Moo Poo competition and they were 1st. Jacqueline McGrath 2nd. Riain Lane 3rd. Noel Lane & Sharon Hendy. Betty Reddish was the lucky winner of the load of timber which was very kindly sponsored by John Houlihan. There was a great turn out for the children’s art competition with many winners here too. In the Junior/Senior Infants grade the winners were 1st. Rory Duffy (Redwood N.S.) 2nd. Chloe Kennedy (Lorrha N.S.). First/ Second/Third Classes: In first place here was Tom Duggan (Lorrha N.S.) 2nd. Molly Yates (Rathcabbin N.S.). Fourth/Fifth/Sixth classes: Hazel Reddin (Rathcabbin N.S.) took the first prize while Aoibheann O’Meara (Lorrha N.S) won 2nd. prize. The judges of the bonny baby and toddlers competitions had a hard time but the four judges ( two for the babies and two for the toddlers) were both unaware that they had chosen the Houlihan sisters from Rathcabbin. Little Ava won the bonny baby competition while her sister Sophie was the winner in the toddler competition. The 2nd. prize in the baby’s went to Jack Tierney from Terryglass while the second prize in the toddlers went to Peter Duggan Portumna. The fun pooch competition had three classes and the winner in under one year went to Stephanie O’Donoghue and Stephanie’s second dog also won the over one year grade with Adam Walsh’s dog coming second. In the adult class the first prize went to Cloughjordan while Joe Bergin from Shinrone won both 2nd. and 3rd. prize with his two dogs. Congratulations and best wishes is extended to all winners.

Work Evening.

Lorrha Development work evening will continue this Thursday evening June 17th. from 6.30p.m. for litter picking planting flowers painting etc. Your help here is required. All work evening dates are available on the parish web site www.lorrhadorrha.ie and anyone who is unable to make the appointed time can do so at a time that suits.

Summer Fete.

The annual Birr summer fete will take place this year on Saturday June 19th. at the Rectory. All the usual stalls will be there and the starting time is 2.30p.m. approx. All are welcome and your support will be appreciated.

One in Four Fundraiser

A Fundraiser for One in Four is taking place on Friday 25th June in the Thatch Cottage Whiskey Still as well as various Nenagh cafes including Cinnamon Alley Collins Bakery Country Choice Easons The Pantry and Quigleys. Each business supporting this fundraiser will facilitate donations when you have your cuppa.
One in Four supports people who have experienced sexual violence by proving counselling advocacy and psychotherapy to victims both children and adults and to their families. Maeve Lewis of Ballyartella Nenagh is the director of One in Four. So come along and have a cuppa and a bite to eat and support this cause so that they can continue providing much needed services.
