Late Joan Esther Finney.

The death occurred on June 16th. 2010 in Waterford of Joan Esther Finney in her 93rd. year. Having lived in Upton Lorrha for many years Joan and her father Charlie moved to Waterford in order to be close to her sister the late Margaret Earl and her husband Austin. Following Charlie’s death in 1980 Joan moved into a single apartment in Christ Church Cathedral Close and remained there for the following 25 years working with many and varied charity’s. Deteriorating health caused her to move into the devoted care of the Little Sisters Meptle Hill where she remained until her death. Her remains were interred in St. Ruadhan’s Church of Ireland Cemetery Lorrha on Monday June 21st. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Joan Esther Finney formally of Lorrha who died recently to the Dooley and O’Meara families on the death of Tony Burns Nenagh to Margaret and Ann Coughlan on the death of their uncle in Daingean to Frank Ryan and family on the death of his mother Eileen Nenagh and to the Morin families Portland and Annagh (Rathcabbin) on the death of Gus. May they rest in peace.

Pilgrimage Reminder.

The Annual Killaloe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place on Sunday July 4th. under the leadership of Bishop Willie Walsh and organized by the Legion of Mary. First Friday.

This coming Friday July 2nd. is the First Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha at 9.30a.m. and in Rathcabbin at 8.00p.m. Confessions will be heard before Mass.

Get Fit.

Fitness classes step circuit and spinning classes will commence on Tuesday July 5th. in Birr Leisure centre. €48 per set of six classes. If you are interested please contact Elaine on (057) 9120343 or on (087) 1357080

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

Please note bus pick up times for our trip to Glenstal Abbey on Wednesday 7th July 2010 – pick up at the Pike 10.00am – pick up Lorrha 10.15am (Mass in Glenstal Abbey at 12.10pm followed by tea and biscuits. Then there will be a tour of the Icon Chapel and Gardens. Meal on the way home in Garrykennedy).
On Thursday 8th July Portumna & District Active Retirement have invited our group to a Social Evening to include a buffet in O’Meara’s Portumna commencing at 8.00pm.
The following trips have been arranged for the month of July:
Wednesday 14th July – Swiss Cottage and Butlers Castle Cahir followed by the Irish night in Boru Bru.
Friday 16th July – Kilbeggan Races
Wednesday 21st July – Boat Trip on Shannon

Youth Summer Festival.

The Annual youth summer festival to Clonmacnoise will take place this year from Thursday 12th. to Sunday 15th. August for those aged 16years to 35 and is by donation only with free bus service available. This has proven over the years to be a very popular way for young people to meet and make new friends while also having the opportunity to experience their Faith. Golf Outing.

Local golfing society RAGS next outing is on the 10th July in Athenry(Captain’s Prize) – tee time is from 9.30 to 11 am. Please take note of the change of date.

We extend best wishes to Nancy Liffey and to Mary Coen for a long and happy retirement after their years of dedicated service to the children of their respective schools.

Work Evening.

Lorrha Development Association work evening will continue this Thursday evening July 1st. from 6.30p.m. for litter picking painting etc. Your help here is required. All work evening dates are available on the parish web site www.lorrhadorrha.ie and anyone who is unable to make the appointed time can do so at a time that suits. We appeal to all residents of the village to please keep the area outside their premises litter free and hopefully we will add more points to our Tidy Towns competition this year.

Parish Leaflet.

Lorrha Development Association launched an information leaflet which gives the visitor to our parish a peep into some of the historical points of interest in Lorrha and Rathcabbin. The leaflet is aimed at bringing visitors to the parish where they can visit such places as mentioned and hopefully linger relax and enjoy their stay. Lorrha Development wish to extend thanks to all who made the launch night such a great success and to helping to record one of the best “Down Your Way” programme’s from the parish which goes out this Thursday night July 1st. from 7 to 8.00p.m. Thanks to “Broadband” for supplying the great music to all participants on the night to our host’s Kathleen and Louis McCormack in Abbeyville to Eamonn O’Dwyer of Tipp F.M. to David Broderick for his help with Rathcabbin history and to Eileen Mannion for compiling the leaflet. Many thanks to one and all.
