Lorrha Notes
Congratulations is extended to Anna Slevin, Lorrha and Michael Harte, Kinnity who recently got married in Rome, Italy. They were accompanied by their families and the wedding Mass was beautifully celebrated by Fr. Michael O’Meara, Kinnity.
Anna and Michael continued the celebrations in The Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon last weekend with the help of their many friends and family. We wish them both many years of healthy and a happy future together.
Lorrha Camogie:
Our Junior B’s are through to the league semi-final having won all of our group matches.
The semi-final will take place on Sunday 8th May @ 4 o ‘clock against Clonoulty in the camogie grounds in the Ragg. All support greatly appreciated. Best of luck to all involved

Talk on the spirituality of JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation). Fr Gearóid Ó Conaire, a Fransciscan friar, will present a talk on the theme of JPIC spirituality, its foundation in Scripture, Church documents and Catholic Social Teaching and the role it plays in our Christian lives. Monday 9th May, 8pm, in Barack Obama Plazza, Moneygall, Co.Offaly. Tuesday 17th May, 8pm in Pastoral Centre, Ennis, Co.Clare.
Celebrating 60 years of Pilgrimage.
This year the Killaloe Diocese is celebrating 60 years of pilgrimage to Lourdes. On 26th June, four flights will leave Shannon Airport bringing pilgrims to Lourdes for five days, celebrating the Jubilee year of Mercy. The cost is €687 full board with online discount available on www.joewalshtours.ie . Aassisted pilgrims are most welcome to travel and care will be provided by medical, nursing and carers. Late Kitty Bergin.
The death has taken place of Kitty Bergin, Redwood Lorrha on Sunday the 24th of April 2016 at Portiuncula hospital, Ballinasloe. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Kitty was born at Kyle Rathcabbin on the 29th of June 1922. She attended Lorrha National School to which she walked every day with her best friend Mary Anne Meara. She worked on the farm as a girl and then spent some time as an auxiliary nurse in London during the Blitz. Her mother became ill so she returned and cared for her until she passed away.
Kitty married Joe Bergin in 1954 and together they had a happy life with Kitty enjoying the music that Joe played on the fiddle with his friends. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends for her humour and her razor sharp wit. She is survived by her daughter Maura Milne (Birr), sons Joe and Stephen (Lorrha), sister Phyllis Corrigan (Banagher), nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, son in law, daughters in law, neighbours and friends.
After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church, Lorrha on Tuesday 26th. burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam dilis. “what are we going to do?”
Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Jimmy Sullivan, Passage West, Cork and late of Redwood who died on Friday April 29th. Jimmy never forgot his roots and many will remember him when he visited the celebrations in Redwood school two years ago.After funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Passage West on Monday last May 2nd. Funeral took place to The Island Crematorium. May he rest in peace.

Award For Outstanding Service.
Congratulations to Eileen Mannion and Richard Bourke who received their Benemerenti Award in recognition of their outstanding service to St. Ruadhan’s Church, Lorrha and Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin in the role of music and choir. We thank them both for their work and wish both many more years in that role.

Pieta House Fundraiser.
The Darkness into Light 5km walk/run will take place in Banagher this year on Saturday 7th May in aid of Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of suicide and self harm. The event will begin at 4:15 am from Banagher College and participants will cross the line as dawn is breaking. Please come out and lend your support to this uplifting and inspirational event.

GAA News
Senior: The senior hurlers face Kilruane MacDonaghs in a crucial final group game in the County Senior Hurling Championship in Borrisokane on Saturday at 7pm. A three-point win would see Lorrha maintain their roinn 1 status for 2017 and could see us into the knockout stages depending on the outcome of the Portroe v Clonoulty game. All support would be appreciated for this crucial game.
The North Championship first round game against Roscrea will take place on 28-29 May or 4-5 June.
Junior: The Junior hurlers suffered a 3-15 to 2-12 defeat to Ballina in the third round of the league in Ballina at half time. The concession of three first half goals put Lorrha under great pressure but they improved in the second half. Our final game is away to Kiladangan where we need to win to have any hope of reaching the semi-finals.
Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels are through to the North ‘A’ Football final after defeating Nenagh Eire Og 1-12 to 0-10 in the semi-final last Monday week in Ballinderry. They will play Inane Rovers in the final on Monday, 9th May with venue and time to be confirmed.
Under 14: Lorrha Rovers Gaels North ‘B’ semi-final will be played on weekend 14-15 May.
Feile: Lorrha will be hosting a team from Antrim as part of Feile na nGael which is being held in Tipperary & Waterford this year from June 17th-19th.

Lorrha CountryFest 2016: Tickets are on sale for Lorrha CountryFest at Moatfield which takes place on Sunday, 17th July from 12 noon to 7pm.
