Congratulations is extended to Laoise Brehony daughter of Una and Ger Lorrha for achieving her silver medal in her Speech and Drama exam for excellent marks with Jared Madden School of Speech and Drama Banagher.  A student of Lorrha National School Laoise is pictured here with Jared.  Well done Laoise and Jared.

Late Fintan Spain.

The death occurred after a short illness on Wednesday December 8th. at St. Kieran’s Nursing home of Fintan Spain Rathcabbin.
In his 85th. year Fintan was one of 9 children four boys and five girls. A single man he worked the family farm throughout his life. He was noted as a gifted senior hurler with the local club whether it be outfield or in goals in the 1950’s. He also loved the game of cards which he took seriously and played a couple of times a week. Hunting was another sport he indulged his spare time in and often went shooting around the callows. A wonderful neighbour who was never found wanting when the occasion arose he will be sadly missed by all who knew him but in particular by his family. Sympathy is extended to his sisters Peg Black ( Meath) Gertie White (Birr) Tess Gallagher (Leitrim) Phil Hughes (England) brothers Michael (Roscrea) Gerry (Dundalk) nieces nephews relatives and friends on their loss. After funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin on Friday 10th. burial took place in Bonoham Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the Bouchier family on the recent death of Mary Davis Dublin. Burial took place in Lorrha. May she rest in peace.

Christmas Retreat.

A National Youth 2000 Christmas Retreat for Young people aged 16 to 35 years will take place at Newbridge College Newbridge Co. Kildare from Friday 17th. to Sunday 19th. December. Final Reminder.

A Christmas Party with a difference will take place on Saturday night 18th. December when Theresa & Barry Walker of The Ferry Inn Lorrha. They invite all to join them in a 50ft. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The committee would like to wish all their members and their families a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas. As from the 15th December we are taking a short break until early in the New Year. We wish to thank everyone who has supported and helped us out during the past year and which is very much appreciated. Take care and be safe for life is too precious.

The Lorrha Parish Calendar is now on sale throughout the parish and makes a lovely present for those living away from home and is packed from cover to cover with photo’s from the past and from the present. Christmas Draw Reminder.

Lorrha Apostolic Work Society will be holding their Annual Christmas draw on Thursday night the 16th. December in Lorrha Community Hall. Tickets are now on sale throughout the parish priced at E2 per line. Please support the ticket sellers when they call to you.

The Magic Of Christmas.

A Gala family concert will take place in the Shannon Oaks Hotel Portumna at 8.00p.m. on Saturday night December 18th. A variety show with a seasonal theme it will feature local performers such as Anne-Marie Hough Pascal Kennedy Colin Fahy Joe Casey Portumna Choir and many more. Admission is E10 Children E5 Family E20. This is a fundraising event for Artist Bursary.

School Concert.

Rathcabbin National School will hold a Christmas school concert on Friday night 17th. in Rathcabbin Hall commencing at 8.00p.m. Your support would be welcome.

Rathcabbin Players.

There was a good turn out to the recent Annual General Meeting of Rathcabbin Players with a lot of work dealt with on the night. Chairman Des Clancy thanked Nancy Liffey for her eight years service as the hard working secretary to the group for the past eight years as Nancy decided to step down from the position. A former chairperson and also a well known producer Pauline Walsh was elected as the new secretary for the forthcoming season. The group agreed to the John B. Keane classic ‘The Year Of The Hiker’ for their 2011 production and which will be staged in Rathcabbin Hall from January 20th. with producer Ann Moloney at the helm this year. Before the meeting concluded the chairman offered sympathy on behalf of the group to former secretary Nancy Liffey on the death of her brother to the Treasurer Eamonn Smith on the death of his brother in-law and to the Broderick family on the death of former member Noel Broderick.
