The 52nd North Tipperary Ploughing championships took place in glorious sunshine on Saturday March 25th.
Enrolment
Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha are enrolling for September 2017. If you would like to call to the school talk to the teachers or to collect an Application form please phone (090) 9747295. Concert
Omna Singers will host a concert in Portumna Town Hall on Friday 31st March at 8-15pm in aid of Ash Services/St Dympnas Bus Fund. Adults €10 Children €5 tickets at the door.
Church News.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 10.00am to 8.00pm in Rathcabbin Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of Jesus.
Vigil Mass in Redwood Church will be at 8.00p.m. commencing Saturday, 1st April.
Mass will continue on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm, in Lorrha, until Easter.
Annual Display.
Lorrha Apostolic Society are holding their annual display in Lorrha Hall on Palm Sunday April 9th from 2.00 to 6.00pm. Do come along and view the winter month’s work by this group of people, join them for a chat and a cup of tea also. Raffle tickets are on sale and they ask that you please support that too. Everyone is welcome. The committee will also hold their church gate collection on the same week-end in the three churches in the parish.
Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to Mona Haughton and family Lorrha and extended family and relatives on the death of her mother Susan Hickey, Broadford, Kildare which occurred on Monday March 20th . After funeral Mass on Wednesday in St. Brigid’s Church, Clogherinkoe, burial took place in Broadford cemetery, Kildare. May she rest in peace.
Sympathy is extended to P.J. Hough and family Lorda Park and extended family and relatives on the death of his brother in-law John Reilly, Navan, which occurred recently. May he rest in peace.
Ploughing Success.
The North Tipperary Ploughing championships took place in glorious sunshine on Saturday last March 25th after been forced to cancel due to the heavy rain on two previous occasions. Well worth the wait, the site was in excellent condition for the ploughmen who came from all over to compete. The committee wish to thank the site owners, Joe and Lillian Austin, Borrisokane, all who attended and the many competitors.
Spring De-Clutter.
When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the spring collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.
Redwood NS – Easter Multi – Activity Camp
Redwood NS will be holding an Easter Multi – Activity Camp from Monday 10th – Wednesday 12th April in the school from 9.30am to 2.00 pm. Activities include art, hands on science experiments, design and make, photography, cookery, photostory,Kahoot, powerpoint, nature trails, aistear (learning through play) and lots and lots more!! The camp is €10 per child per day. The camp are open to children from 3 to 10 years old. GAA News.
Lorrha suffered their first loss in the County League on Sunday when Burgess pulled away in the final quarter to win 3-15 to 1-15. In round 3, Lorrha are away to Roscrea, likely on weekend 8-9 April.
Lorrha received a walkover from Shannon Rovers last Saturday. Lorrha’s second game is at home to Moneygall on Saturday, 8th April.
Minor:
Lorrha Rovers Gaels game with Silvermines was postponed last Sunday and is likely to be refixed. They play Moneygall/Clonakenny in Moneygall this Thursday, 30th March at 6.30pm. Lorrha Rovers will play their rearranged game against Kiladangan on Thursday, 6th April at 7.00pm.
The Minor ‘A’ Hurling Championship will begin over Easter week with Lorrha Rovers Gaels hosting Roscrea in their opening game.
Under 16 Football:Lorrha Rovers Gaels received a walkover from Ballinahinch/Templederry last Monday. Next Monday, 3rd April, Lorrha Rovers face Kilruane MacDonaghs in Cloughjordan at 6.30pm
Under 14 Football: Lorrha Rovers Gaels game against Borrisokane was called off last Wednesday due to the bad weather. This evening (Wednesday, 29th March) they play Kilruane MacDonaghs in Cloughjordan at 6.30pm. They have a bye next week.
Under 12: Lorrha played Burgess in Moatfield last Saturday and were defeated 2-4 to 1-2. Yesterday (Tuesday) they played Kilruane MacDonaghs band won 5-11 to 0-3. This Friday, 31st March, they play Kiladangan in Moatfield at 6.30pm
Membership for 2017 is now due. Closing date is this Friday, 31st March. Rates are: €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).
