Lorrha Notes

The death took place on Tuesday August 9th at University Hospital Cork of Paddy Corrigan Lismacrory Ballingarry Roscrea. At 72 Paddy who took ill suddenly was out and about and attended the wedding of a nephew just four days before his death. Born and raised in Lorrha Paddy served for many years as post man in the Lorrha end of the parish where he cycled over many miles delivering the post which brought him in contact with many on his daily rounds. Always willing and able to help Paddy served as chairman of Tipperary County Camogie Board for a number of years but for the last number of years he was heavily committed to Gurteen Badminton Club along with his wife Breda. One of life’s characters Paddy had many a story to relate and was very accurate in detail too. He kept in touch with Lorrha and his relatives there and attended to the family graves regurarly. Paddy will be sadly missed by all who knew and came in contact with him down through the years. Sympathy is extended to his wife Breda brothers Tommy and Eddie (England) sister Mary (Co. Meath) nieces nephews relatives neighbors and friends on their sad loss. After funeral Mass in The Pike Church on Thursday 4th burial took place in S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery Borrisokane. May he rest in peace.

Prayer Vigil.

You are invited to join a monthly prayer vigil that takes place on the 3rd. Friday of each month in Cluain Chiarain Clonmacnois. The prayer intention is for the renewal of the gift of faith and the evangelization of Ireland. The vigil begins with Mass at 10pm leading to adoration until 3.15am Saturday. Pilgrimage.

The annual pilgrimage to Holycross will take place on Wednesday 24th. Bus will leave from Rathcabbin at 12 noon and from Lorrha at 12.15p.m. Mass commences at 3p.m. Names as soon as possible to Nancy at (090) 9747922 or to Betty at (087) 6667374.

Recent Engagement.
Congratulations is extended to Fiona Maher Rathcabbin and Ray O’Brien Carrig who announced their engagement recently. Well done and all the best for the future.

Come Dancing.

Dancing continues in the newly extended Lorrha GAA clubhouse on Friday night with Brendan Lee providing the entertainment and the organisers would love to see you there.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

On Wednesday 10th August some of our members went to Galway for the day. This trip was meant to be a day in Salthill but due to the weather we went on a boat trip on the Corrib followed by a spot of shopping in the city. On the way home we stopped off at Portumna Golf Club for a meal. Many thanks to Christy our driver and to Cathal McIntyre for the wonderful meal.
Just a reminder that our short break is to the Talbot Hotel Wexford on Sunday 11th September for 4 nights and that a deposit of €50. is required within the next 2 weeks this deposit is non-refundable. Well Done.

Congratulations and well done to Patrick “Bonner” Maher and the Tipperary senior hurling team who are back in another All-Ireland final come September after their win over Dublin on Sunday last in the semi-final. Well done Bonner..

Heritage Week.

Celebrate Heritage week in Portumna on Sunday 21st. August from 3.00p.m. Visit Portumna Castle where a talk will be given on absentee Landlord and later a walk will take place through the town with stops along the way at heritage sites and finish up at the Irish workhouse Centre at 4.30p.m. This is a free event and all are welcome.

Tonight will remain dry in most areas but increasing cloud in the south will bring a little patchy rain or drizzle mainly along the coast. With very slack winds overnight patches of mist and fog will form. Cold also. Minimum temperatures 5 to 9 Celsius.
Tomorrow

Thursday will have bright or sunny spells in most areas but scattered showers also. South and southeast coasts will be duller for a time with some rain drizzle and fog clearing during the day. Maximum temperatures 15 to 18 Celsius with light variable or northeast winds.

Outlook

Summary: The weather will be changeable and unsettled over the weekend and for most of next week. Thursday night will be mainly dry with clear spells and very slack winds. Misty in places with fog patches. Quite cold. Min. 4 to 8 Celsius. On Friday the eastern half of the country will be mainly dry with sunny intervals. Cloudy conditions with rain will move gradually in across much of Connacht as well as some western parts of Munster and Ulster as the day progresses eventually reaching eastern parts in the evening or early night. Becoming breezy also with freshening southerly winds. Max. 14 to 18 C warmest in the east. Friday night will have further outbreaks of rain in most parts and it will be quite mild and humid. Current indications suggest that the west and northwest will brighten up on Saturday with good dry intervals and just a few scattered showers. However there is a possibility of some further rain at times in parts of the south and east. Winds mostly moderate south to southwesterly. Sunday will have good dry bright spells everywhere with parts of the south and southeast staying largely dry but some scattered showers will occur mainly in Connacht and Ulster. Temperatures returning to around normal with maximum values of 16 to 20 C. Winds mostly moderate a west to northwest.

He says ‘Sir have you been drinking?’
