Lorrha Notes

National Videoclip Champs.

Three girls, two of them sisters, made a video clip of their dog Buddy going about his everyday life with the family. The girls were on holidays in Rathcabbin with their Aunt Pauline Walsh and family during the summer when they sent the videoclip which their cousin Maria Heenan helped in compiling,  forward for a National competition organised by the dog food company  Petmania Ireland. The girls were “so delighted” when they were chosen from thousands of entries and were told that they had won a “three night stay for One dog and five of his humans in the Five star Castlemartyr Resort  in Cork”. They also get a One year supply of Royal Canine dog food. The two sisters, Siena and Sile are pictured here with their mum Anne (nee Walsh Rathcabbin) and their cousin Maria Heenan (Rathcabbin) and Jim from Petmania Ireland. Well done girls, great inspiration down Rathcabbin way..

The most northerly parish in Tipperary, Lorrha is well known for its monastic settlements – Saint Ruadhán, the Dominican Abbey and Augustinian Priory. However, it also has a significant military history as recounted in this book. In the early years of the 20th century, it was perceived as a republican parish mainly due to the large Cronin family – one of whom married Kitty Kiernan. In fact, many people from Lorrha served during the Great War, whether it was with Irish or British Regiments or commonwealth and American forces. They fought in all theatres of war. They were granted numerous awards for valour including the Victoria Cross to Martin O’Meara of Lissernane. This book details their background, their families and their post war lives. It is as much a family and local history as well as a military treatise. Display of Militaria and Memorabilia.Shrapnel from the Somme Battlefield with each book purchased
