Lorrha Notes

A presentation was made recently to Mrs. Elizabeth Houlihan Motefield in recognition of her dedication to the Lorrha & Dorrha GAA Club over the last 25 years. Mrs.Houlihan was in charge of cleaning the jeserys for the club and has recently announced her retirement.

First Friday.

Friday is the first Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha at 9.30am and in Rathcabbin at 8.00pm. Confessions will be heard half hour before Mass.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations is extended to Grainne Haugh daughter of Nuala and Kieran Rathcabbin who celebrated her 21st. birthday recently. Grainne celebrated the occasion with family and friends in Kellys Rathcabbin. Well done Grainne.

Lorrha Development.

A work evening has been arranged for this Wednesday evening May 4th. around the village. Meet outside the hall at 6.30p.m. and bring garden fork spade etc. Pots and flower beds need cleaning for the summer planting so all help will be welcome. If the time is too early for you do come along at whatever time suits.
Lorrha development ask residents in the village and on the approach roads to keep out side their house and stretch of road litter free please in an effort to keep the village and approach to it looking well. While we are aware that it will be difficult to repeat the excellent marks we received last year which was 18 the highest in North Tipp. we can at least try and only hope for the best. However its not all about marks but pride in our village and a clean place for all to enjoy so please do help.

Prayer Vigil.

You are invited to join a prayer vigil that takes place on the third Friday of each month in Cluain Chiarain Clonmacnois. The prayer intention is for the renewal of the gift of faith and the evangelization of Ireland. The vigil begins with Mass at 10.00p.m. leading to adoration until 3.15am Saturday. Summer Camp.

Busy bodies summer camp will take place in Killeen N.S. starting July 4th for four weeks finishing July 29th. Ages from 3 years up to 12 years. Starting time is 9.30a.m. to 3.00p.m. Please bring packed lunch. Family reductions numbers limited so book early. Writers in Portumna.

The Irish Writers’ Centre present authors John Connolly Alex Barclay and Kevin Barry who will read from their thrillers/novels and discuss the art of reading and writing on Thursday May 5th in the Shannon Oaks Hotel at 7.30p.m. Admission 5 euro and all are welcome.

Gospel Choir.

A concert featuring Galway’s Gospel Choir and Portumna’s Omna Singers will take place on Friday May 6th in St. Brigid’s Church Portumna at 8.30p.m. All are welcome. Admission is 5 euro or a donation.

Concert.

Dublin Choral Group will perform Handel’s Messiah in Meelick Church on Saturday 14th. May at 7.30p.m. sharp. Proceeds to Cancer Care West and Galway Hospice.Tickets 25 euro. To book call (086) 8898554. The concert is supported by Galway co. Council.

Annual Novena.

Our Lady of Clonfert annual novena for the month of May commenced on Sunday last and will continue each evening at 8.00p.m. until the end of the month. Each year during the month of May a daily Eucharistic celebration is held in Clonfert Church. Hundreds of people come from all over to pray be reconciled be healed with many making the traditional three visits. The statue of the Madonna and child was carried in the procession at the Eucharistic Congress in 1932 in Dublin.

Liturgical Music.

Fuaimlaoi present “Ancient Promise” – liturgical music rooted in the Irish tradition by Ronan McDonagh in The College Chapel Mount St. Joseph Abbey Roscrea on Sunday 15th. may at 7.30p.m. Admission is free. Books and CD’s will be available for purchase.

Summer Festival.

Knock Summer festival will take place this year from June 24th to 26th in Knock Shrine. The festival is for all people aged from 18 to 35 and the cost of the week-end is 70 euro which includes all food and accommodation.
