Enrolment.

Application forms are now available for new entrants to Scoil Lua Naofa. Lorrha for the coming year 2011/12.
The Enrolment Application Form can be obtained in person or by calling the school at (090) 9747295. Please return completed forms by March 11th.

Open Day.

Parents/Guardians of new entrants to Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha are invited to our “open day” on Friday March 4th. from 1p.m. to 3p.m.



Congratulations is extended to the Gurteen mens div 4 badminton team who beat Ballycommon in a close final to win 2 in a row Tipp county titles.L to R Enda Hogan Roger Byrne Leslie Harding Brian Bond.  Well done lads..

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Girley Kennedy (Rathcabbin) and Kathleen Dunne (Lorrha) and rxtended family on the death of their sister Julia Bugler Loughrea which occurred after a short illness on January 22nd. After funeral Mass in Mullagh on January 22nd. burial took place in Kilrickle Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Pilgrimage.

Friday the 11th. February is the 153rd. anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette in Lourdes. This years Pilgrimage will leave Shannon on Sunday June 26th. returning on Friday July 1st. The cost this year is E660 pps. A limited number of sick pilgrims will be accommodated in the Sanctuary of Lourdes at a cost of E550. Application forms for sick pilgrims only to Fr. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The committee of St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association would like to thank everyone who came and supported our Dinner Dance which took place last Sunday 30th January in the Community Hall Lorrha. It turned out to be a very successful afternoon. Not only had we members from Cloughjordan Carrig-Riverstown-Killeen Portumna Eyrecourt Active Retirement Associations there were also people from Nenagh and Moneygall. We were also joined by guests from St. Kierans Nursing Home Rathcabbin. Also present were the CEO of Active Retirement Ireland Maureen Kavanagh Maura and Pat Lyons representing the Mid Western Region Seamus O’Shea and his wife Mary our Development Officer Fr. Pat Mulcahy Fr. Michael Kennedy and Catherine Cleary and her partner Paddy. Catherine has helped over the past years with fundraising for which we are all very grateful. It was great to see Fr. Joe Kennedy back in Lorrha again. Our thanks also goes to Lil and Denis Maher and their staff for the excellent food and service to Richie and Pat for the wonderful music and to all our members who did the floral arrangements for the tables. Thank you all and we look forward to seeing you all again in the near future.

Gardening Course.

Retirement Wishes.

Congratulations and many good wishes is extended to Phil Molloy Lorrha who has retired from the duty of sacristan in Lorrha Church. For many years Phil has kept St. Ruadhan’s in splendid condition and was always on hand for the necessary duties that we take for granted every day. Well done Phil and enjoy your retirement. We extend a warm welcome to her replacement Bridget Grover.

Liturgy Music.

The publication of a new musical setting for the Mass by Seamus Doran a native of Roscrea is a significant occasion for the liturgical life in the Church in Ireland. This Mass will be sung for the first time by Roscrea Folk Group in St. Cronin’s Church Roscrea on Friday February 18th. at 7.30p.m. Copies of the Mass Hymnal will be available on the evening of the Mass. The Mass will be recorded and the CD will be available at a later date.

North Tipperary Hospice.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association are holding a tea/coffee afternoon in aid of North Tipperary Hospice on Wednesday 9th February 2011 in the Community Hall Lorrha from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. This is an excellent cause so please do call in for a cuppa and a chat.

Music Classes.

Traditional fiddle classes for adults will be starting soon in Portumna. Further details from Maureen at (086) 1999828.

Gratitude.

Rathcabbin Players wish to extend thanks to all who supported their recent production of the John B. Keane classic “The Year of the Hiker”. The play was another outstanding success for the group which is due to your continued support. Many thanks.

Poker Classic.

Lorrha/Rathcabbin gun club are holding a poker classic on this Friday night February 11th. at 9.30p.m. in Mahers. E30 entry prizes pro rata. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Lions Club.

Portumna and Disctrict Lions club extend thanks to everyone who donated items of food to their Christmas food appeal/hamper over the festive season. The donations was much appreciated.

Support Group.

Rainbows is a peer support group for young people aged between 6 and 18 years who have experienced bereavement due to death of a family member or through parental separation. A group will be commencing shortly in Borrisokane Community College. For further details contact Breda Lillis Deane at (067) 27268.

“Love at Lunchtime”

What a wonderful title with St. Valentine’s Day coming up next Tuesday and behind the romantic thoughts is members of Portumna Arts Group who will perform romantic readings and love songs with local artists featuring. All this will take place in the Church of Ireland Portumna at 12 noon.

Give Blood.

The Irish Blood Transfusion service board will be in The Shannon Oaks Hotel Portumna on Tuesday 15th. February from 3 to 4.45pm and from 7 to 9.30p.m. For further information call (090) 9759594 or (087) 0947691.

Volunteers Sought.

Volunteers are required to help teach over 55’s to use computers in Portumna. You must be able to commit to 2 hourly sessions over a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Basic computer skills needed with patience and good humor just as important. A short introduction for volunteer tutors will be provided. Training Workshops.

North Tipperary Sports Partnership is pleased to announce a Committee Training Workshop that will run over three consecutive Mondays. The overall aim of this workshop is to make the work of Committees/Boards more effective better able to respond to difficulties and more rewarding for members. The topics covered in the workshops include
o An awareness and clearer understanding of the founding and governance documents of the organisation and its structures (eg Constitution Standing Orders) and the implications of those documents and structures (if any)
o A clearer understanding of the role of the committee within these structures
o An understanding of the elements of a good committee process using a co-operation rather than a control-based model
o The specific functions and responsibilities of the key officers of the organisation especially the Chair Secretary Treasurer which may vary a little from organisation to organization.
The workshop will be run by Ciaran Lynch (Director of the Rural Development Department at Tipperary Institute) in Tipperary Institute Thurles on: Monday 21st 28th February & 7th March 2011 6.30pm – 9.30pm Sharp Prior registration with North Tipperary Sports Partnership is necessary. A nominal fee of €25 per club is required to secure your place. It is important that two members from each organisation attend and are willing to commit to the three sessions in order to allow the learning to be communicated to your organisation.
