Work progresses on the new Village Park in Lorrha.

Enrolment.

Application forms are now available for new entrants to Scoil Lua Naofa. Lorrha for the coming year 2011/12.
The Enrolment Application Form can be obtained in person or by calling the school at (090) 9747295. Please return completed forms by March 11th.

Open Day.

Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha invite Parents / Guardians to our open day on Friday March 4th. from 1p.m. to 3p.m.

Pilgrimage.

The 55th. Diocesan Pilgrimage to ourdes will leave Shannon on Sunday June 26th. returning on Friday July 1st. The cost this year is E660 pps. Booking forms are available from CARA/Joe Walsh Tours 143 Lower Baggot St. Dublin 2 or call (01) 2410810. A limited number of sick pilgrims will be accommodated in the Sanctuary of Lourdes at a cost of E550. Application forms for sick pilgrims only to Fr. Prayer Vigil.

You are invited to join a prayer vigil that takes place on the third Friday of each month in Cluain Chiarain Clonmacnois. The prayer intention is for the renewal of the gift of faith and the evangelization of Ireland. The vigil begins with Mass at 10pm leading to adoration until 3.15am Saturday. New Setting.

Lead me home – a new musical setting for Mass by Seamus Doran will be sung by Roscrea Folk Group in St. Cronan’s Church Roscrea on Friday February 18th. at 7.30p.m. All are welcome.

Recent Engagement.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Ruadhan Mannion son of Liam and Rose Lorrha and Fiona Lyttleton daughter of John and Frances Clonmel who announced their engagement recently. Well done to the happy couple and all the best in the future.

Cross Crountry Success.

Congratulations to Niall (2nd. year) and Eoin McIntyre (5th. year) who both had tremendous success recently with Portumna Community school at the Connaught Schools Cross Country Races. Niall won a Bronze medal in the Junior Boys race which was run over 3000m. Facing stiff competition Niall remained in the leading group over the first lap and in a fast paced finish claimed third place and his place in the All-Ireland final. His brother Eoin had an equally grueling race over 4500. and well over 100 competitors. Eoin showed great courage to hold his place throughout the race and finished 11th. which also sees him qualify for the Intermediate race in the All-Ireland. Well done lads and all the best in the All-Ireland.

Apostolic Society.

Lorrha Apostolic Work Society would like to thank our loyal supporters for a very successful Christmas draw 2010. The winners were: 1st. Davis Power Lorrha. (Hamper worth E150) 2nd. Sarah Nevin Grange. (Meal Voucher) 3rd. Helen Slevin Carrigahorig (Brandy & Biscuits) 4th. James Heenan Lorrha (Wine & Sweets) and the extra prize of a bottle of Baileys went to Andrew Dagg Lorrha.
Many thanks to all for your continued support. Our Annual Display will be held on Sunday March 20th. More details later. The Lorrha branch meet every two weeks in Lorrha Community Hall on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month if anyone is interested in joining us there.

Support Group.

Rainbows is a peer support group for young people aged between 6 and 18 years who have experienced bereavement due to death of a family member or through parental separation. A group will be commencing shortly in Borrisokane Community College. For further details contact Breda Lillis Deane at (067) 27268.

Training Workshops.

North Tipperary Sports Partnership is pleased to announce a Committee Training Workshop that will run over three consecutive Mondays. The overall aim of this workshop is to make the work of Committees/Boards more effective better able to respond to difficulties and more rewarding for members. The topics covered in the workshops include
o An awareness and clearer understanding of the founding and governance documents of the organisation and its structures (eg Constitution Standing Orders) and the implications of those documents and structures (if any)
o A clearer understanding of the role of the committee within these structures
o An understanding of the elements of a good committee process using a co-operation rather than a control-based model
o The specific functions and responsibilities of the key officers of the organisation especially the Chair Secretary Treasurer which may vary a little from organisation to organization.
The workshop will be run by Ciaran Lynch (Director of the Rural Development Department at Tipperary Institute) in Tipperary Institute Thurles on: Monday 21st 28th February & 7th March 2011 6.30pm – 9.30pm Sharp Prior registration with North Tipperary Sports Partnership is necessary. A nominal fee of €25 per club is required to secure your place. It is important that two members from each organisation attend and are willing to commit to the three sessions in order to allow the learning to be communicated to your organisation. Tracing Relations.

Norman Letcher from Karratha in Western Australia is trying to trace his relations in the parish. His mother’s family the Horan’s came from Lorrha in 1849. New Arrival.

Congratulations is extended to Denis and Kathleen Duffy Rathcabbin on the birth of their daughter Lisa. A sister to Rory and Mia. Well done to all.

Lorrha & Dorrha GAA Photo Gallery

Further to the ongoing development of the new Lorrha & Dorrha clubhouse facilities the committee are looking at setting up of photo gallery of current and past Lorrha teams and Lorrha players who played with Tipperary over the years. We ask that anyone who would have photos in their family photo albums relating to above would wish to share with the club. The club will make a copy of your submitted photo and return original to you. Gun Club News.

Lorrha/Rathcabbin Gun Club held their poker classic in Mahers recently. Prize winners were 1st. Chris Bradley 2nd. James Heenan 3rd. Liam Donoghue joint 4th. Val O’Meara and John Horan 5th. Paddy Heenan 6th. Mary Teresa Delaney. Gratitude.

Lorrha Development members wish to offer thanks to all 26 volunteers who helped with the bag packing on Thursday and Friday of last week. Thanks is also extended to the management and staff of Dunnes Stores in Nenagh for accommodating this fundraiser. All money raised will be used to keep the everyday running of the Development ticking over such as paint brushes insurance flowers pots and many other projects which the group are planning on commencing in the coming weeks.

Development Update.

Work on the new Friars Park in the village is progressing steadily despite the recent bad spell of weather thanks to the hard work of all the contractors. Trees and shrubs have been planted and the pathways are also taking shape as is the wall. The park will take on a whole new look when the fence is erected in the coming weeks.

Church Gate Collection.

The Irish Pilgrimage Trust annual church gate collection will take place on Saturday / Sunday 26th./27th. February in Lorrha Redwood and Rathcabbin to help bring young people with special needs to Lourdes at Easter. This year is very special as it is the 40th. Anniversary and many young people from this region are traveling on the pilgrimage. We would be most grateful for your help for this deserving cause. All volunteers travel at their own expense.

Lecture.

South East Galway Archaeological and Historical Society hosts a lecture by Marie Boran (James Hardiman Library NUI Galway) entitled; Landed Estates in South-east Galway: Evidence from the Connacht Landed Estates Project in Donie O’Meara’s Restaurant Portumna on Tuesday February 22nd at 8.30pm. St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

St. Patricks Day Parade in Portumna this year will take place at 12.30 assembly in the mart commencement of parade will be at 1pm. Registration forms available in the Post Office on Patrick St. It is guaranteed to be a good parade all round.
