Late Thomas Cahalan.

The death occurred at Nenagh General Hospital on Tuesday May 3rd. of Thomas Cahalan Curraghgloss Lorrha.
Tommy who was 92 years of age lived a happy and fulfilled life for his generation. His work farm and family was his life. Content with whatever came the way he was a quiet inoffensive man who in the not too distant past could be seen on his bicycle as he cycled to the neighbours house. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. Sympathy is extended to his wife Lidie son Tommy sister Lena Cavanagh (Birr) brother Denis (USA) daughter in-law Anne-Marie grandsons Kevin and Paul nieces nephews cousins neighbours relatives and friends. After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Thursday May 5th. burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to John O’Meara and family Ballincur Lorrha on the death of his father Mick Arrabeg Carrig which took place on Friday May 6th. After funeral Mass in Carrig Church on Monday May 8th. burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Tidy Towns.

Work evenings are planned for every Tuesday evening during the month’s of May and June. Meet outside the hall at 6.30p.m. and bring garden fork spade etc. If the time is too early for you do come along at whatever time suits. Alternatively if the evening is not suitable another evening can be arranged if you call (086) 8647166.
Residents in the village and on the approach roads are asked to keep out side their house and stretch of road litter free please in an effort to keep the village and approach to it looking well.

Additional Dust Bins.

Lorrha Development wishes to extend thanks to North Tipp.County Council for supplying and installing two new additional dust bins in the village. The bins were fitted into place last week and will be a great addition in the efforts to keep the village litter free. Please note that the bins are not for household waste and if such waste is found to be in them they will be removed.

Invitation.

Louth County Council and Tallanstown Tidy Towns Committee along with the Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government invited Lorrha Development to celebrate their success in the National Tidy Towns competition last year.
Two of our members attended the function and un – veiling of a plaque which took place on Saturday last and they got to meet and chat with special guest President Mary McAleese. A great day was had by both.

Gratitude.

The Parents Association of Lorrha National School would like to thank everyone who supported and helped with the recent raffle and table quiz. A special thanks to anyone who donated prizes. The winners were 1st. Martina Egan 2nd. Aobhainn O’Donoghue Kennedy 3rd. Eoin Larkin.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The committee and members of St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association would like to thank everyone who purchased lines in our recent May Day Raffle. 1st Prize of a Hamper valued €150. was won by Anne Reddish (Rathcabbin) John Craig (Lorrha) won the 2nd Prize of an €80. voucher for the Thatch Eoin McIntyre (Portland) won the 3rd Prize €50. Supervalu voucher Kitty Kennedy (Newtown) won 4th prize which was a bottle of brandy. The bottle of whiskey was won by Mary Downey (Portumna) and the 2 lots of wine and chocolates were won by Martina Houlihan (Lorrha) and John Guinan (Rathcabbin). Your continual support is greatly appreciated by all.

Prayer Vigil.

You are invited to join a prayer vigil that takes place on the third Friday of each month in Cluain Chiarain Clonmacnois. The prayer intention is for the renewal of the gift of faith and the evangelization of Ireland. The vigil begins with Mass at 10.00p.m. leading to adoration until 3.15am Saturday. Concert.

Dublin Choral Group will perform Handel’s Messiah in Meelick Church on Saturday 14th. May at 7.30p.m. sharp. Proceeds to Cancer Care West and Galway Hospice.Tickets 25 euro. To book call (086) 8898554. The concert is supported by Galway co. Council.

Annual Novena.

Our Lady of Clonfert annual novena for the month of May commenced on Sunday last and will continue each evening at 8.00p.m. until the end of the month. Each year during the month of May a daily Eucharistic celebration is held in Clonfert Church. Hundreds of people come from all over to pray be reconciled be healed with many making the traditional three visits. The statue of the Madonna and child was carried in the procession at the Eucharistic Congress in 1932 in Dublin.

Liturgical Music.

Fuaimlaoi present “Ancient Promise” – liturgical music rooted in the Irish tradition by Ronan McDonagh in The College Chapel Mount St. Joseph Abbey Roscrea on Sunday 15th. May at 7.30p.m. Admission is free. Books and CD’s will be available for purchase.

Bealtaine Festival in Lorrha.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association is hosting a play entitled ‘Fruitcake’ starring Mary McEvoy on Wednesday afternoon 18th May 2011 commencing at 3.30pm as part of our participation in the Bealtaine Festivals. ‘Fruitcake’ was written by Alice Barry is both funny and poignant and has something for everyone. It starts off as a cookery demonstration but is in fact an account of one woman’s life and how each ingredient reminds her of past memories and decisions made which ultimately changed the course of her life.
There is no admission charge and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the play.
