Lorrha GAA club launched their new fundraising venture recently in the GAA clubhouse. They are entering the Euro Lotto with numbers drawn during the launch. The numbers will be entered into two draws per week starting on 7th April 2020 and ending on 2nd April 2021 which gives ticket holders 104 chances of winning with the club for just €20 for the yearly ticket which can be bought from Maureen on (087) 242 6965, Joe on (087) 967 3124, Adrian on (0870 232 5234, online at https://member.clubforce.com/tickets_m.asp?LL_ID=189&cbl=1 or any of the committee or players.  Pictured here drawing  number’s is senior captain Eoin McIntyre. Postponed.

The North Tipperary ploughing championships were cancelled due to the inclement weather last week-end. The new date is Saturday March 14th at 12 noon. Membership is due and must be submitted on or before March 20th. By now, all members should have their allocation of raffle tickets to sell. Tickets cost €5 with first prize €300, 2nd. = €200, 3rd = €100, 4th = Two tickets to the National Ploughing championships in September and numerous other prizes. The draw will take place on Saturday 28th March in O’Meara’s Restaurant & Bar in Portumna. All members are asked to sell their allocation of tickets please.

Preservation of Owls in our Environment

Dr Aine Lynch and Tom Gallagher of Birdwatch Ireland  will give a lecture and the preservation of various Owl species including the Barn Owl in Lorrha Hall next Friday night 6th March at 8pm. This is a very informative talk on the habitat needed to conserve and enhance these beautiful birds in Ireland. Admission is free and all are welcome. For further details contact Cllr. Sunday Masses Redwood, 1st & 3rd Saturday’s at 6.30pm, Lorrha, 2nd, 4th & 5th Saturdays at 6.30pm. Rathcabbin, Sunday’s at 11.30am. Week day Masses Monday 9.30am in Lorrha (no Mass on Bank Holidays)

Please note that there will be no mass in Redwood on Sat 7th March, with the Vigil mass in Rathcabbin at 6.30pm instead due to the Confirmation on Sun 8th March in Lorrha.

Care of the Environment:

Planet Earth is under serious threat. Climate change and exhaustion of natural resources loom ominously. What can we do to halt these trends? How can we help to conserve the most precious thing we have – our children’s future? Anyone who is concerned about these issues is invited to a meeting in St. Ruadhan’s Community Hall, Lorrha on Monday 9th March at 8pm. Come and see how together we can make a difference.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Jimmy Cunningham and family Portland and extended family, on the death of his mother Katherine, Portumna which occurred on  Monday 24th February. Predeceased
by her husband Michael and her son-in-law Mike Monaghan. Katherine’s passing is deeply regretted by her sons and daughters, – Seán, Peggy, Tommy, Mary, Jimmy and Patricia, her sons-in-law Micheál Lohan (Ballygar) and Kevin Dunne (Dunshaughlin), her daughters-in-law Patricia Abberton (Clonmoylan) and Patricia White (Lorrha), her thirteen grandchildren, her three great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, her brother-in-law, her cousins, relatives, and her many friends. After funeral Mass Funeral Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Portumna, burial took place in Calvary Cemetery.  May she rest in peace.
Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Martina Duggan and family, Portland on the death of her brother P.J. Bugler, Loughrea which occurred on February 25th.  Cherished and much-loved husband of Angelina and adored father of Cathal, Sharon and Stephen. Sadly, missed by his daughter in-law Selina, son in-law Noel and his beloved grandchildren Alisha, Brendan and Amelia. Fondly remembered by his brother Michael, sisters Maura, Martina, Teresa, Pauline, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, extended family, neighbours and many friends. After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Cathedral, Loughrea on Friday 28th burial took place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Loughrea. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy is extended to Michelle Ryan (Manager of Mulrooney’s The Ferry, Lorrha) and extended Ryan family on the death of her mother Marita, Aglish on Friday 28th February. After funeral Mass in Aglish Church on Sunday last, burial took place in St. Peter Pauls Cemetery, Borrisokane. May she rest in peace.

Tractor Run.

Borrisokane Community College Tractor run in aid of Embrace FARM and Pieta House will take place on Sunday March 8th . Registration in School reception at 12 noon, starting at 1.00pm.  Refreshments and raffle will be held in the school afterwards. All vehicles must be taxed and insured. Entry fee €20 per tractor. Date for your Diary

St. Kieran’s Care Home, Rathcabbin, are holding a coffee morning combined with a Daffodil day on Friday 27th March from 10.30am to 12 noon. All proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society. Everyone is invited to attend.

GAA News.

Senior: The senior hurlers will play their first County League game away to Kiladangan on weekend March 8.

Junior Hurling: The junior hurlers will get their League campaign underway this weekend against Burgess on Saturday at 4.00.

Minor football: Having had their game postponed last weekend, The Lorrha Rovers minor footballers are fixed to play Moneygall/Clonakenny next weekend. Fixtures TBC.

U14 Football: The Lorrha Under-14s will begin their Peil North Tipp Juvenile B campaign against Moneygall/Clonakenny in Lorrha on Saturday.

Coaching course: The club will be providing a foundation level coaching course in Lorrha on Mondays March 23 and March 30. David Needham will be providing the class and any club members with an interest in getting into coaching are encouraged to attend.

Child welfare course and Garda vetting: There will be a child welfare course in the clubhouse on Wednesday March 11.Registration at 6.10. The course begins at 6.30. This course is essential for anyone who wishes to be involved with any of the underage teams this year. Garda Vetting is also essential for any underage coach, and they can cover this by looking up GAA Garda Vetting and following instructions.

Social dancing: Social dancing continues next Friday night Mar 6 to the music of Adrian Ryan. Dancing from 9.30 to 12.30.

Membership: All players are to have their membership paid by this Friday night. Membership can be paid on clubforce.com, with all rates unchanged from last year.

Summer coaching: Tipperary GAA coaching and Development are recruiting coaches for this year’s Easter and Summer GAA camps. Coaches must be born 2003 or earlier. If you are interested, apply via email to Dinny Maher:  tipperarygaacamps2020@gmail.com.
