Parish Golf Outing.

RAGS golf week-end will take place from 4th to 6th October. The venue this year is “Lough Erne Resort” Enniskillen. The package is: 2 x nights B&B, 2 x rounds of golf, 2 x course dinner. Show Your Talents For North Tipp Hospice.

Can you sing, play a musical instrument, tell a story or recite a poem? And if you have such a talent, can you spare five minutes of your time on Sunday September 15th between 2 and 6pm for North Tipp Hospice. A music event with singing and dancing, will take place on that day in Friars Park, Lorrha and the organising committee are asking people to donate a little time to make this evening one to remember. Well Done.

Congratulations and well done to Brian Hogan, Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher and the Tipperary senior hurling team on their mighty 3.25 to 0.20, third title in a decade win which secured a 28th All-Ireland victory over Kilkenny last Sunday in the All Ireland final. It was great to see the recovering from injury Bonner, hobble up and lift the Liam McCarthy cup. We look forward to Liam coming to visit us here in Lorrha.

New Date.

Lorrha and Dorrha Golf Society have agreed a new date for their 30th Anniversary golf classic. This will now go ahead on Saturday 31st August in Birr Golf Club with the time sheet open from 9 am to 12 noon. Church News.

Conference.

The annual young adult Catholic conference takes place in All Hallows College, Dublin on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st. This is a fantastic week-end packed full of interesting events for young Catholics. Prices range from €25 to €50, accommodation also available. St. Pio Mass.

Mass to St. Pio will be celebrated in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr on Thursday evening August 22nd at 7.30pm with Rosary at 7.00pm.

Late Very Rev. Fr. Tom Seymour.

The death occurred on Sunday last the 18th at Milford Care Centre, of Very Rev. Fr. Tom Seymour, Nenagh. A native of Portroe, Fr. Tom served in Lorrha/Rathcabbin for a number of years back in the late 1960’s and he was appointed for a second time in the parish in the 1980’s. He was much liked and will be fondly remembered as a true gentleman.  He was appointed PP in Nenagh in 2002.
Predeceased by his parents James and Johanna, brothers Liam, Michael, Patrick and James. Deeply regretted by his loving family brothers Denis and John (Kilkenny), sisters-in-law Norah and Anna, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Bishop Fintan Monahan, priests and religious in Killaloe Diocese, relatives, friends and parishoners of the various parishes that he administered to whom sympathy is offered.
After concelebrated Requiem Mass on this Wednesday 21st.  at 2pm burial will take place in Castletown Cemetery, Portroe. May he rest in peace.

 Wedding Wishes.

Many congratulations and good wishes are extended to Muireann Brophy, Rathcabbin and Brian Larkin, Lusmagh who were married last week. We wish them many happy years together as they settle down to married life in Rathcabbin.

Hard Luck.

Commiserations to Clodagh McIntyre and the Tipperary Intermediate camogie team who lost out to Galway by four points in the All Ireland Intermediate semi-final on Saturday last. Hard luck Clodagh.  Also commiserations to the senior team who bowed out to Kilkenny in the senior All Ireland semi final.

Festival.

The Woodford furnace festival will take place from August 19th to 25th. There will be charcoal making, furnace building, smelting and forging taking place throughout the week. There is also a series of events at the Woodford Heritage Centre, all free of charge. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village.
