Well done to the Lorrha under 12 hurling team who beat Drom & Inch in the County semi-final on Saturday last in Nenagh  on a score line of Lorrha 1.11 Drom & Inch 1.3. The Lorrha team were in fine form with great performances from each and every one. The team that lined out was, Con O’Meara, Fergus O’Donoghue, Lee Hogan, Liam O’Donoghue, Celine Guinan, Rory Duffy, Conor Kennedy, Robert Duffy, Paul Cahalan, Tom Perry, Dermot Houlihan. Subs: John O’Meara for T. Perry (ht), Jake Houlihan for D. Houlihan (ht).  We wish the team and management the best of luck in the final which will be played in Dundrum on Sunday August 27th. at 1.00pm. Official Launch.

The official launch of the Lorrha Community Responder Group took place last week in the village. The group are now officially gone live with the National Ambulance Service to respond to the following emergency’s in their Community and cover an area of 8km radius of Lorrha village to include the parish of Lorrha/Dorrha, Portumna, Terryglass and Aglish – Cardiac arrest calls, cardiac chest pain calls, stroke/cva calls, choking incidents – and serving their Community 24/7 365 Days of the Year. When an emergency occurs, always dial 999/112. Be sure to have your Eircode (Post Code) ready as the ambulance service can locate your house quicker.

Open Air Mass & Historical Drama.

Fr. Pat Mulcahy P.P. Lorrha celebrated open air Mass on Saturday evening last in the shade of Redwood Castle and thankfully the weather was good for the occasion.  This was followed by the O’Sullivan Beara Re-enactment which was followed by tea and refreshments for the many who turned out. Well done to Peter and his cast.

Church News:

Dates for your Diary. Legion of Mary Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine on Sunday 24th September. James Kilbane in fundraising concert in Rathcabbin Church on Saturday 18th November. Tickets on sale shortly.
The Killaloe Autumn Pilgrimage to Lourdes will leave Shannon Airport on Sunday 1st October returning on Friday 6th October. Fare €667 per person sharing with €10 discount for online bookings. Rathcabbin First Responders.

A refresher training course will take place on Thursday night 24th August in Rathcabbin Hall from 7.00 to 10.00pm. All members please attend. New members welcome.

Lorrha Camogie:

Well done to the girls who recorded their first win in the Junior championship last Sunday. Final score Lorrha 3.11, Silvermines 4.7. Lorrha will travel to Ballina on Sunday 27th Aug  at 12noon for round 2 of the championship. After that they play Borrisoleigh in Borrisoleigh Sat 16th Sept at 12 noon, Nenagh Sat 23rd Sept at 12 in Lorrha and Burgess Sat 30th Sept at 12 in Lorrha. The top two teams to come out of the group go through to the semi-final stages. Please come out and support the girls in their Championship campaign.

St. Cronan’s Service Community Employment Vacancies.

St. Cronan’s Service Birr has a CE vacancy for a Support Worker.  A full clean B driving licence will be required for this position .St. Cronan’s Service Roscrea has 2 CE vacancies: one for a Support Worker & one for a Catering Assistant. Autumn De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the Autumn collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep one adult employed. GAA

Senior: Our senior hurlers have been drawn against JK Brackens in the quarter final of the O Riain Cup and this game will be played on weekend of 9-10 September

Junior: The Junior hurlers received a walkover from Roscrea last Saturday in our third game. Lorrha are through to the semi-final with one game to be played against Moneygall in a few weeks time.

Under 21: With our minor campaign at and end, all minors are asked to train with the adult teams in advance of the under 21 championship which is due to begin in mid September against Silvermines

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels played Borrisokane in their final group game last Monday but were defeated 3-10 to 3-9. The defeat meant they played Burgess in a playoff last Thursday in Moatfield where they won 3-14 to 1-5. This win set up a quarter final against Nenagh Eire Og last Monday evening but suffered a 5-24 to 2-7. Thanks to the players and mentors for their efforts this year.

Under 12: Congratulations to our under 12’s who progressed to the County ‘B’ Hurling final following a 1-11 to 1-3 win over Drom & Inch in Nenagh last Saturday. They will play Father Sheehys in the final in Dundrum, this Sunday 27th August at 1.00pm; one of four finals in the venue on the day. We wish the players and mentors all the best and urge our supporters to make the trip to West Tipp for the game.

Tipperary: Best of luck to Colm Fogarty who is on the Tipperary Under 15 panel for the annual Munster ‘B’ Tournament in Clarecastle this Saturday.

Fundraiser: The club has launched a 2500-to-1 fundraising draw with a prize fund of €10,000. We have 2,500 tickets valued from 1 cent to 2500 cents (€25) and when you accept to take a ticket, you scratch off a hidden section and the value in this section is what you pay for the ticket, it could be 1 cent, €25, or any value in between. All tickets bought will be entered into a draw in late September for a top prize of €5,000 with eleven ther prizes ranging from €2,000 to €200. Your support would be appreciated.
