News from Lorrha School.

We had a very busy first term and just prior to Christmas we had an informative and interesting Internet safety talk for our pupils which was given by Dr. Maureen Griffin.
Our Juniors went to see “Frosty the Snowman” in Birr Theatre while our seniors attended Portumna Community School’s staging of “ High School Musical”.
3rd to 6th class entertained the senior citizens in Portumna Day Care and Portumna Nursing Home before returning to entertain the residents in St. Kieran’s Care Home in Rathcabbin. Our thanks to all involved for the welcome they gave both the pupils and the teachers.
Term two is just as busy starting back with pottery classes which are proving to be very popular with our students.
We had two teams who participated in the Borrisokane Credit Union schools quiz. The U13 team  was Lisa Duggan, Aaron Duffy, Amy Clarke, Kayla Boons while the  U11 team was Ceri McGrath, Conor Kennedy,Ava Young, Emma Kennedy. Well done to both for their participation.
Just last week we had a visit from a past student Ger O’Meara who has written a history book about Lorrha People in the Great War. Ger brought along memorabilia from the war, an array of medals and a lot of history which was most interesting. We wish him well with his book and we thank him for taking the time to visit us in the school.
