Christmas Market & Auction.

Santa will be arriving at 3pm to the Annual Lorrha Christmas Market and Auction on Sunday 4th December commences at 1pm. There will be gifts galore, home baking, Christmas cakes and puddings, Christmas decorations, face painting, guess the weight of the cake, guess how many balloons in the car and much more. Going under the hammer will be turf, timber, hay, straw, and a signed Tipperary Jersey. There will also be a draw for a massive hamper on the day. All money raised is used in the upkeep of the village. Please support Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns.

Lorrha & Dorrha Parish Calendar.

In the shops in plenty of time for the Christmas post is the 2017 Lorrha & Dorrha parish calendar which is on sale throughout the parish and in neighbouring towns. You can purchase a copy in Pat Hough’s, Friars Tavern, Colette Hair Salon, Lorrha Shop, Mulrooney’s Ferry Service Station, Ferry Inn and in Brophy’s only in Rathcabbin. Buckley’s Super Valu in Birr are stocking the calendar this year.  In Portumna: Salmons Newsagents, Boathouse, Lorraine Hair Salon, O’Meara’s Super Valu and Heenan’s in Borrisokane. As usual, the calendar is packed with photographs from the past and the present and is a lovely Christmas present as well as a treasured keepsake to have. First Award For Lorrha Cemetery

The Nenagh Municipal District Awards Evening were held at the Civic Offices of the Tipperary Co Council friday night last. In the category of Best Burial Ground 2016,the first runner up prize was won by the Lorrha Cemetery Committee which was great recognition of the work the members have put in over the year, a great achievement for a committee that is less than 18 months in operation. Thank you to all for the continued support and let us work together in keeping our cemetery as a fitting resting place for our nearest and dearest.

Final Reminder.

The ever popular annual Christmas variety show performed by the children of Redwood NS will take place on Thursday, 01st December at 7pm in the new location of Lorrha Community Hall. The show will incorporate music, song, Irish dancing choreographed by dance teacher Stephanie Power and ‘Night of the Museum’ produced and directed by Drama teacher Jared Madden. Admission is free, Raffle and refreshments on the night with hampers and great spot prizes to be won. A great night’s entertainment promised! Arrive early to guarantee your seat!!!

Lorrha Camogie:

We will be running a stall as a fundraiser for our club at this years Christmas market in Lorrha Hall on Sunday 4th December starting @ 1pm. We will  have a competition running to guess the amount of balloons in the tractor, kindly on loan from our sponsors Portumna Hire Agri with prizes to be won. Please come along on the day and support the girls. All support greatly appreciated.

Christmas Concert.

The children of Rathcabbin National School will perform their Christmas Concert on Wednesday 7th December at 12 noon and a second showing at 7pm in the village hall in Rathcabbin.   Please contact Clare on 087 1364936 to book your preferred time to see the show. Retirement.

Long Serving Member of North Tipperary Ploughing Dinny Duffy has retired from the position of  President and N.T. Delegate to the National committee at last week’s AGM. The committee wish to thank him for his many years of service to N.T. Ploughing and wish him a long and happy retirement. The committee also elected a new assistant secretary on the night. The committee that will oversee the running of the club for the forthcoming season is President – Eileen Duffy, Chairperson – Eamonn Murphy, Secretary – Denis Cahalan, Treasurer – Tom Duffy, vice Chair – James Hough, Assistant secretary – Laura McKenna, Assistant treasurer- Ray Clancy, N.T. delegate to National Ploughing – Joe Slattery.
The annual Christmas party night will take place in Paddy’s Terryglass on Friday night December 10th at 8.00p.m. Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Denis on (087) 7793719.

Novice Ploughing:

Vote For Community Hero Reminder.

Birr First Responders volunteer David McEvoy has been nominated for a National Community volunteer award by ‘It’s better Together’ volunteer group.  As David is well known to many as he has trained a lot of people and children in Lorrha Dorrha parish in Cardiac First Response and First Aid,  a vote for him on www.bettertogether.ie/charity-hero/david-mcevoy would convey our appreciation for his wonderful community spirit. Church News

Mass in Lorrha Church on Wednesday, 30th November at 7.30p.m. This Mass will be offered for the Holy Souls. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  continues  every Thursday from 10am to 8pm in Rathcabbin  Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of Jesus. Friday, 2nd December – First Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 9.30a.m. and Rathcabbin Church at 7.30p.m. The Mass in Rathcabbin Church will be Mass of preparation for children  who will receive sacrament of Communion for Life in 2017.

Youth 2000 invites all young adults between the ages of 16 – 35 to a Catholic weekend retreat taking place from 16th – 18th December at Newbridge College, Co Kildare. This will be an exciting weekend attracting over 600 young people from all over the country. The weekend is being organized by young  people for young people.  Parental consent is essential for those under 18.  All meals are provided for  and accommodation is onsite. There will be free busses picking you up from various areas around the country. Booking is essential. Pilgrimage.

Michael O’Connor will escort a tour to Benevento and San Giovanni from 18th April 2017. Many will remember Michael who attended a healing Mass in Clonfert last May with a Padre Pio relic.. Itinerary to include a visit the birth place of Saint Padre Pio and the church where he celebrated his first Mass. The cell where he lived and died, and his tomb. Direct flight from Dublin to Naples. Winter De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the winter collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Fundraising Concert.

Tracing Relations.

Patrick Hogan is trying to trace his relations. His Great-great Grandfather was Michael Hogan (b. 1829- d. 1915) who was married to Mary Kilkeary and they had six children Patrick (my great grandfather)
Peter, Bridget, John, Michael and Mary. He lived in Lorrha where Patrick visited in July 2015. GAA News.

Laochra Sean Ghael Award: 

Congratulations to Liam King, Ballymcegan, who became the latest person from Lorrha to be presented with a Laochra Sean Ghael award at The Dome, Semple Stadium last Sunday. Liam was one of 24 people in the county, all over 70 years of age, who have given significant service to the G.A.A. in a variety of different ways over a lifetime to be honoured and as a player, coach and committee member, Liam King is certainly a person who deserves such an accolade.

Juvenile AGM: took place in the Clubhouse last Wednesday night and was well attended with some good discussion on a number of issues. Overall it was a successive year with the Under 12’s and U14’s (with Shannon Rovers Gaels) winning North titles while the Under 16’s reached North finals in hurling and football. Chairman Dessie Clancy and secretary JP Houlihan thanked everyone for their support over the last three years and stepped down from their roles with the following elected at the new committee: Chairman – Tommy Kennedy; Vice-Chairperson – Caroline O’Brien; Secretary – Kathleen Gleeson; Assistant Secretary – Martina Duffy.
The following management teams were also confirmed: U6: Tommy Kennedy plus selectors TBC; U10 – Martina Duffy plus selectors TBC; U10 – Mark Houlihan, Hubert Duggan, Kenneth Cleary; U12 – Denis Duffy, Martina Duffy, Donal O’Donoghue; U14 (with Shannon Rovers Gaels) – Fergus Gorman, Garrett Needham; U16 (with Shannon Rovers Gaels) – Dessie Clancy, JP Houlihan.

Issues discussed including getting more people to undertake the Level 1 coaching course, as well as inviting the Co Board Youth Officer to the club to improve best practise within the club while it was agreed to get signs for the road to be erected during training times to make drivers aware that children are crossing the road.

Ball Wall: The juvenile committee would like to thank David Needham for an excellent ball wall session on Saturday with the 13-16 year olds.

Inter-divisional Football: Kevin Cahalan and Dan Needham who were selected on the North Tipperary Under 13 inter-divisional football team for last weekends tournament with Kevin having the honour of captaining the side in their win over Mid Tipperary. They play South Tipperary in their final game this weekend

Senior Club AGM: on Thursday 15th December at 8pm. Nomination and motion forms will be distributed this week.
