Lorrha & Dorrha Parish Calendar.

In the shops in plenty of time for the Christmas post is the 2017 Lorrha & Dorrha parish calendar which is on sale throughout the parish and in neighbouring towns. You can purchase a copy in Pat Hough’s, Friars Tavern, Colette Hair Salon, Lorrha Shop, Mulrooney’s Ferry Service Station, Ferry Inn and in Brophy’s only in Rathcabbin. Buckley’s Super Valu in Birr are stocking the calendar this year.  In Portumna: Salmons Newsagents, Boathouse, Lorraine Hair Salon, O’Meara’s Super Valu and Heenan’s in Borrisokane. As usual, the calendar is packed with photographs from the past and the present and is a lovely Christmas present as well as a treasured keepsake to have. Christmas Market & Auction.

Santa will be arriving at 3pm to the Annual Lorrha Christmas Market and Auction on Sunday 4th December commences at 1pm. There will be gifts galore, home baking, Christmas cakes and puddings, Christmas decorations, face painting and more. Going under the hammer will be turf, timber, hay, straw, and a signed Tipperary Jersey. Members of the committee are out and about selling €2 lines for a food hamper, biscuits, wine and more. The draw will take place on the day of the market so please support them when they call to you. All money raised is used in the upkeep of the village. Please support Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns.

Vote For Community Hero.

Birr First Responders volunteer David McEvoy has been nominated for a National Community volunteer award by ‘It’s better Together’ volunteer group.  As David is well known to many as he has trained a lot of people and children in Lorrha Dorrha parish in Cardiac First Response and First Aid,  a vote for him on www.bettertogether.ie/charity-hero/david-mcevoy would convey our appreciation for his wonderful community spirit. The closing date is 7th December so please tell all your friends to vote for David. We wish him the best of luck so get voting.

Prayer Vigil:

Mothers Union is taking part in ’16 days of Activism against Gender Violence’, Help us join with others from around the world to end Violence against Women and Girls, by raising awareness and calling for change. Please Join us at St. Brendans Church of Ireland Birr on Saturday 26th November for a prayer vigil From 3 to 4.30pm.
Donations of Toiletries ,Nightwear for Women and Children and Toys For Adapt House Refuge centre limerick will be gratefully accepted on the day .

News From Lorrha School.

Another great response from parents and students for our Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box appeal. A big thank you to all for this wonderful display of support and generosity for those less fortunate this Christmas. There’s no doubt that this will make so many children happy and we are delighted to be able to play our part in this great project every year.

Pilgrimage.

Michael O’Connor will escort a tour to Benevento and San Giovanni from 18th April 2017. Many will remember Michael who attended a healing Mass in Clonfert last May with a Padre Pio relic. One night full board in Benevento, 3 nights full board in San Giovanni Rotondo. Itinerary to include a visit the birth place of Saint Padre Pio and the church where he celebrated his first Mass. The cell where he lived and died, and his tomb. Direct flight from Dublin to Naples. For more information contact Michael on (087) 2677656.

Garda Warning.

Gardai are warning firearm owners that firearm licences must be renewed immediately. If you have an unlicensed firearm, Gardai say they will seize the firearms and prosecute owners where their obligations have not been met.

Redwood NS Christmas Variety Show

The ever popular annual Christmas variety show performed by the children of Redwood NS will take place on Thursday, 01st December at 7pm in the new location of Lorrha Community Hall. The show will incorporate music, song, Irish dancing choreographed by dance teacher Stephanie Power and ‘Night of the Museum’ produced and directed by Drama teacher Jared Madden. Admission is free, Raffle and refreshments on the night with hampers and great spot prizes to be won. A great night’s entertainment promised! Arrive early to guarantee your seat!!!

Lorrha Camogie:

Following our AGM on Friday 11th last in Moatfield the following officers were elected to the club; Bernie Cleary- Chairperson, Katie Kennedy –Assistant Chairperson, Niamh O’ Shea- Treasurer, Kate O’Meara-Assistant Treasurer, Juliet Hoary-Secretary, Grainne Hough-Assistant Secretary and Michelle Hogan-PRO. We would like to thank Maria Maher, who stepped down as secretary, for all her great work on behalf of the club last year. We would also like to thank our trainers Jimmy and Colm for all their commitment over the past year and our many sponsors- Mikey Naylor Car Dismantlers, Leslie Shaw Portumna Hire Agri, The Ferry Inn Bar & Restaurant, David Broderick Physio, Colm Duggan Builder, Breda O’ Meara Borrisokane Pharmacy, Noel Hogan Urban Sports. We would also like to thank all of our supporters who travelled to our matches over the past year. Matters discussed on the night included a trainer for the upcoming year and also fundraising plans for the club. The North Tipperary ploughing A.G.M. will take place in The Yanks, Borrisokane on Wednesday 23rd November at 8.30p.m. All are invited.

Lorrha People in the Great War.

Congratulations and many good wishes is extended to Ger O’Meara on the launch on Saturday night last of ‘ Lorrha People in the Great War’. Australian Ambassador Richard Andrews launched the book which is available in the shop in Lorrha and in other outlets.

Winter De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the winter collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.
