Mr. & Mrs. Birr were out in style for the 48th Annual Birr Vintage Week parade on the last day in July

Recent Wedding.

The wedding of Kevin Coughlan, son of Michael and Anne, Lissagadda, Lorrha, and Sinead Deasy, daughter of Michael and Noreen, Clogagh, Timoleague, Bandon, Co. Cork, took place on April 22nd 2016 in the Church of St. Moluda, Clogagh. The brides sisters Elaine and Ciara along with her friend Claire Clifford carried out the duties of matron of honour and bridesmaids respectively while three of the groom’s friends David Holland, Sean McGarrell and Raymond Kelly carried out the duty of bestman and groomemen respectively. The grooms godson Colin Coughlan acted as page boy for the occasion while the two mothers Anne and Noreen brought the offertory gifts to the altar. Celebrant Fr. Joe Kennedy officiated while the ceremony was enriched with the lovely Church music by Melos.
Afterwards the newly weds joined with their families and friends for their reception which was held in Fernhill House Hotel, Clonakilty. Congratulations is extended to Kevin and Sinead for a long and happy life together as they settle down to married life in Dublin.

Church News:

The Dominicans are this year celebrating 800 years of preaching the gospel. A pilgrimage will take place on Saturday 6th August and a visit will be made to Portumna Abbey (Saturday 12 Noon),   Lorrha Friary (Sat. 3.30pm.), St. Peter & Paul Church,  Boula  (6.00pm Mass).  All welcome.

Date for your diary:  A concert with Isla Grant will take place on Wednesday 14th December in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church, Rathcabbin.   Tickets will soon be on sale at €25, from the Parish Pastoral Council.

Milford Care Centre.

This year the Milford Hospice annual Harvest Fair celebrates its 31st anniversary and is scheduled for Sunday 14th August at the University of Limerick.  There will be a fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.  Items such as plants, bottles for the bottle stall and homemade cakes along with new items for the Wheel of Fortune will be accepted on the day only.  All other goods, such as toys, fancy goods and books are being accepted at the Hospice from the 2nd August 2016.   For further details, please contact the Fundraising Office on 061 485859.

Foraging Course.

There will be a wild food foraging course held in and around Lorrha village on the 17th-19th August. The course, presented by foraging expert Mary Bulfin will cover plant identification, uses, heritage and culinary preparation. People are welcome to join for all or any of the 3 days. This course is free but places are limited, so booking is advisable by text to 0876185461

Lorrha Parish Golf outing will take place in Portumna Golf Club on 27th August. This year’s Captain is Pascal Moran and the President is Martina Taffe. A time sheet is in operation from 9am to 12.45. Autumn De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the autumn collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Minecraft: Let’s Build a Workhouse with SnakeDoctor & Solidarity Gaming on Sat, 20th August

As part of Heritage Week (20th-28th), join the MineVention team at Portumna Workhouse – help build a replica of the workhouse in a “Build Battle” challenge, while learning tips with Minecraft; included is a meet-up with SnakeDoctor & Solidarity Gaming, a tour of the Workhouse, a quiz, a free-building / Lego room plus games on X-Boxes. The Dirt Diggers for Kids on Saturday, 27th August, 12.30 – 2.30 pm

GAA News

Junior Hurling: Lorrha’s next game is away to Moneygall next weekend where we need a win to remain in the hunt for the quarter finals.

Minor: The minors suffered a 2-12 to 2-8 defeat to Burgess in Moatfield last week in their second game of the championship. Their next game is the rearranged match against Ballinahinch/Templederry in Shallee this Friday, 5th August at 7.00pm

Under 16: Last Monday week in round 4, Lorrha Rovers played Kiladangan in Puckane and won 4-8 to 1-12 for their third win in four games. They have a mini break before returning to action on Monday 8th August at home to Kilruane MacDonaghs.

Under 14: Lorrha Rovers ended the group stages of the North ‘B’ championship unbeaten and through to the semi-finals which will be played in early August.

Under 12: Well done to the U12 hurlers who defeated Toomevara in the North ‘C’ semi-final last Thursday and progress to the final which will be played on Saturday 13th August.

Tipperary: Hard luck to Brian Hogan and the Tipperary Under 21 Hurling team in their Munster Final loss against Waterford last Wednesday. Well done to the Tipperary senior footballers on their wonderful win over Galway in the All Ireland semi-final on Sunday.

All Ireland Semi-Final Tickets: Orders for tickets to the All Ireland Senior Hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Galway must be with Shane Brophy (0876989612) by next Friday night, 5th August. Stand – €40; Family – €40+€5 (Cusack & Davin Stand Only); Terrace – €25; Club Pass – €10 (Davin Stand only, minimum order of 15 required for the club to access them) Orders are also being taken for football semi-final tickets with a closing date of Friday, 12th August. Ticket prices are the same as the hurling but there is a special package of €60 for adults and €10 for children if you wish to attend both.

Cul Camp: A record 95 children attended the Kellogg’s Cul Camp in Lorrha last week. Thanks you all those you gave up their time to help organise the camp, as well as the coaches, headed up by Tipp star Niall O’Meara as well as our own Eoin & Niall McIntyre.
