Every good wish is extended to Sean O’Meara, Cullagh on the occasion of his 90th birthday which he celebrated last week-end.

At the recent Portumna Town Football Club awards evening Kevin Cahalan Lorrha received the player of the year trophy in the u13 soccer group plus his shield medal as he captained the U13 squad to victory in the Midland Shield final. The team beat T & S of Laois  3 to 1,  a first for the club. Two more Lorrha youth played on the team, Dan Needham and Patrick Young. Patrick’s dad Michael managed the team.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations is extended to Sean O’Meara, Cullagh, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday last with family and friends in The Friars Tavern, Lorrha. Well done Sean and many happy returns.

Church News:

The Dominicans are this year celebrating 800 years of preaching the gospel. A pilgrimage will take place on Saturday 6th August and a visit will be made to Portumna Abbey (Saturday 12 Noon),   Lorrha Friary (Sat. 3.30pm.),   St. Peter & Paul Church,  Boula  (6.00pm Mass).  All welcome.   Date for your diary:  A concert with Isla Grant will take place on Wednesday 14th December in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church, Rathcabbin.   Tickets will soon be on sale at €25, from the Parish Pastoral Council.

Pilgrimage.

The annual Pilgrimage  to  Holycross  Abbey will take place this year on Wednesday,  3rd August. Further information and to book your seat please contact Betty Houlihan on 087- 6667374 as soon as possible.

Milford Care Centre.

This year the Milford Hospice annual Harvest Fair celebrates its 31st anniversary and is scheduled for Sunday14th August at the University of Limerick.  There will be a fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.  Items such as plants, bottles for the bottle stall and homemade cakes along with new items for the Wheel of Fortune will be accepted on the day only.  All other goods, such as toys, fancy goods and books are being accepted at the Hospice from the 2nd August 2016.   For further details, please contact the Fundraising Office on 061 485859.

Foraging Course.

There will be a wild food foraging course held in and around Lorrha village on the 17th-19th August. The course, presented by foraging expert Mary Bulfin will cover plant identification, uses, heritage and culinary preparation. People are welcome to join for all or any of the 3 days. This course is free but places are limited, so booking is advisable by text to 0876185461

Lorrha Parish Golf outing will take place in Portumna Golf Club on 27th August. This year’s Captain is Pascal Moran and the President is Martina Taffe. More details later.

Lorrha CountryFest Thanks.

The two chairmen Graham and Joe, extend thanks to all of you who supported the CountryFest in any way. It was a great success for the whole community.

Autumn De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the autumn collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Birr Vintage Week.

The 48th Annual Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival kicks off on Sunday coming the 31st with the opening parade through the streets of Birr commencing at 3pm. There are several events taking place from Friday 29th and will continue throughout the week. Barnardos children’s charity is looking for volunteers in Tipperary to support its national collection day – Buckets for Barnardos – on Friday 16 September. Please give two hours of your time and help raise funds to support Barnardos work with children and families in Tipperary.

GAA News

Junior Hurling: Hard luck to our junior hurlers who lost 3-13 to 1-15 to Newport in a terrific game in Newport on Saturday evening. Lorrha’s next game is away to Moneygall in two weeks while they also a home game against Ballina as they chase a quarter final place.

Minor: The match against Ballinahinch/Templederry this not take place last Wednesday and has been rescheduled for Friday 5th August in Shallee at 7pm. This Thursday, 28th July they are at home to Burgess in Moatfield at 7.00pm.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers played Toomevara on Friday in Ballinderry and recorded a fine 2-18 to 1-10 win. Last Monday in round 4, they played Kiladangan in Puckane and won 4-8 to 1-13 for their third win in four games. They have a mini break then before returning to action on Monday 8th August at home to Kilruane MacDonaghs.

Under 14: Lorrha Rovers ended the group stages of the North ‘B’ championship unbeaten and through to the semi-finals which will be played in early August.
Under 12: Lorrha have topped their group in the ‘C’ championship and have progressed to the semi-finals which will be played this Thursday 28th July against Toomevara in Moatfield at 7pm.

Tipperary: Best of luck to Brian Hogan and the Tipperary Under 21 Hurling team in their Munster Final against Waterford this evening (Wednesday).

Best of luck also to our Lorrha Rovers Gaels minor coach George Hannigan and the Tipperary footballers in their All Ireland quarter final against Galway this Sunday. Anyone who requires tickets for this game can get them through Centra, SuperValu or on www.tickets.ie. We urge a big Lorrha support to head to Dublin to cheer on the lads.

All Ireland Semi-Final Tickets: Orders are now being taken for tickets for the All Ireland Senior Hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Galway on Sunday 14thAugust. Closing date for orders is strictly Friday 5th August. This is the last game family tickets will be available.
Cul Camp: The 2016 Kellogg’s Cul Camp got underway in Moatfield on Monday morninNews next week.
