With the arrival of a defibrillator in Lorrha village, Pupils from 3rd to 6th class in the local N.S. completed a Heartsaver CPR AED  course prior to Christmas. Recently they were presented with their certificates by course co-ordinator David McEvoy of Birr First Responders. Also in the photo is Lorrha school principal Mrs. Olive O’Meara.

Marriage Preparation.

Getting Married in 2016 – Approved Pre-Marriage Courses – The only courses approved in the Diocese of Killaloe are the Accord courses, the Esker pre-marriage weekend and the Mount Argus Course in Dublin. The Diocese does not accept On Line Pre-Marriage Courses or courses which are supplied on CD/ DVD as sufficient preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage. Cookery Demonstration.

Borrisokane Community School are holding a Healthy Eating Cookery Demonstration in the school on Monday night February 29th at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

News From Lorrha School.

Congratulations to the pupils from 3rd to 6th class who were presented with their CPR AED certificates recently. They undertook the course on Dec. 9th along with basic first aid for the juniors. Sr. Essie attended the school recently to help us continue with our preparations for First Holy Communion which takes place on May 29th in Rathcabbin and for Confirmation which will be held in Lorrha on May 15th.
Our thanks to Sr. Brid who worked with our sacramental classes for the past ten years. She’s greatly missed.

Congratulations to our Quiz Teams who represented us in Borrisokane on Monday 1st Feb.  Under 11 Ceri Mc Grath, Liam Kennedy, Conor Kennedy. Under 13 Lochlainn Mc Grath , Lisa Duggan, Kyla Boons, Caoimhe O’ Meara.

Date for your Diary. Our annual open day will be held on Saturday March 12th t from 2 – 4p.m. This is an ideal opportunity for parents to meet and talk to the teachers and view the school. All welcome.

Lorrha Active Retirement.

Following our recent AGM we would like to thank sincerely our outgoing committee for all the work and making it a very successful year for all the members. Our new committee is as follows: Chairman – Eamon Mannion, Vice chair – Sheila Dillon, Treasurer – Theresa Donoghue, Assistant Treasurer – Annie Cowan, Secretary – Nancy White, Assistant Secretary – Anne Power, P.R. – Mary Darcy. Committee – Betty Reddish, Gay Needham, Marie O’Meara, Nora O’Hara. Our membership is open to everyone over 50. We meet every Wednesday at 2.30pm in Lorrha Hall. We have so many activities, bingo, cards, social outings and we are a very welcoming group. Do come and join us.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Spring collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Spring collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

GAA News.

Senior: The Seniors hurlers have been drawn at home to Moyne-Templetuohy in the first round of the County Challenge Cup which will get underway on weekend 5-6 March.

Lorrha will play Portroe in the opening round of the County Championship on weekend 9-10 April.

Under 21: Shorn a number of players due to injury, the under 21 footballers lost 3-8 to 1-2 to Ballinahinch/Templederry in the opening round of the North ‘B’ Championship in Moatfield on Sunday. Lorrha will next play Moneygall/Clonakenny in the next two weeks.

Under 6 & 8: Training starts in the Sports Hall this Friday, 19th February at 7pm

Under 10: Training starts this Saturday, 20th February, time to be confirmed

Lotto: Our jackpot is now €5,700 with a Match 3 pot of €120. Thank you for your continued support. You can play our lotto online at www.locallotto.ie where it is easy to play every week. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.

Membership: for 2016 is now due. Rates were also confirmed with all inclusive of Gym membership: €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership for 12 months); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children). Closing date for membership for all adult and juvenile players is the last day of February to be insured in training and games while the closing date for all membership is 31st March. This date will be strictly enforced and no monies will be accepted beyond this date. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then. Membership can be paid to club registrar Louise Mannion or can also be done online at www.locallotto.ie

Registration Night: There will be a membership registration night for adults and juveniles this evening (Wednesday) in the GAA Centre from 8-9.30pm

Poker Classic: Lorrha GAA Club will be holding a Poker Classic in the GAA Centre on Saturday, 12th March from 8pm. Tickets €10 are currently on sale and there will also be a draw as part of the night.

Lorrha CountryFest 2016: Tickets (€20) are available from Kevin Molloy (0876738986) for this year’s Country Music Festival at Moatfield which takes place on Sunday, 17th July from 12 noon to 7pm. Line-up includes Mike Denver, Robert Mizzell, Louise Morrissey, The Conquerors, Johnny Brady, Pete Kennedy, Sean Slattery & The Connections as well as local band Tradstone. A day not to be missed!

Social Dancing: on Friday night to the music of Footloose. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.

Sympathy: Lorrha GAA Club would like to sympathise with the Molloy family on the death of Tony Molloy, Roughan, who passed away last week. May he rest in peace.
