Caoimhe Kennedy in action for Tipperary on Saturday last in Freshford. Tipp are through to the quarter finals, but first they play Clare on Saturday coming 18th in the County camogie grounds at The Ragg with a 2.30pm start.

Please Take Note.

The weekly work evenings around Lorrha village has been changed to Thursday evenings to facilitate volunteers who continue to come in and help with weeding, cleaning etc. This Thursday volunteers are requested to meet in Friars Park at 7.30pm to finish work that needs to be completed there. Lorrha Development / Tidy Towns wish to thank those who have volunteered to date. Your support is much appreciated. All help will be very welcome.

The annual parish golf outing will take place in Birr Golf club on Saturday 22nd August. This year’s captain is Denis Duffy (Jnr), and the President is Pauline Needham. Tee time from 9am. Time sheets available from Denis on (087) 7784666 or from Tony Coen on (087) 6219639.

Commiserations.

Commiserations to Caoimhe Kennedy and the Tipperary senior camogie team who were heavily beaten on Saturday last by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland Championship campaign in Freshford. We wish Caoimhe and the Tipp girls the best of luck next Saturday when they meet Clare in the camogie pitch in The Ragg at 2.30pm in the final game.

Artist’s Thanks.

Bar Olympics.

Kelly’s Rathcabbin are hosting a fun event called Bar Olympics on Saturday night July 18th to raise money to purchase a Defibillator for the village. BBQ and music on the night. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Redwood NS:

We would like to thank the Parents Association of Redwood NS for all their hard work and support during the year. We would especially like to thank them for recently purchasing five new laptops for the school. These along with our i-pads greatly enhance the IT resources of the school and are of great benefit to the children. We would also like to thank all those who supported the Buffet Dance earlier in the year and wish everybody a safe and happy summer.

Church News.

The Annual Youth 2000 Summer Festival will take place in the Cistercian College , Roscrea, from Thursday 13th – Sunday 16th August 2015. For young people aged 16 – 35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the catholic faith and meet many new people, with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year.  The festival is donation only.  Free busses available from all around Ireland.  For more info and to book online, see www.youth2000.ie or phone 01 6753690.

Lorrha Cemetery Committee.

A large crowd turned out to a meeting on July 6th in Lorrha Hall to form a cemetery committee and great interest was shown towards keeping the graveyard clean and in good order from those present who have family interred in the graveyard. The following officers were elected. Chairman, Mick Hoctor, Secretary, Kieran Behan, Treasurer, David Power. A working committee was also elected and they were Oliver Duggan, Tommy Needham, P.J. Coughlan, Eamon O’Meara, Damien Coughlan.  An open meeting will be held on Monday night July 20th at 8.30pm in Lorrha Hall. All are welcome to attend, in particular those with family graves.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

Last Wednesday, 18 of us went on a boat trip on the Shannon with Joe O’Keeffe which was followed by a meal back in Joe’s Guest House.  Although a little chilly, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.  Many thanks to Joe, Avril and Catherine.  Our planned outing to Kilbeggan Races on Friday night has been cancelled due to lack of interest.  The next trip out is to the Rock of Cashel and the Irish Show in Bru Boru. Anyone interested in going on this trip please contact Nancy on 087 761 3458.

Summer Camp.

Borrisokane Athletic club are holding a summer camp in the GAA Pitch in Motefield on 23rd and 24th  of July from 10am to 1pm.  Ages catered for will be from 6 to 14 years. It won’t be all about athletics though as fun and games will be also included. For further information contact John O’Farrell on (087) 2210115.

Ferry Fest.

The Ferry Inn are holding a ‘Ferry Fest’ on Saturday night July 18th. Live music by the Cuskoos. Come and enjoy a night of music and entertainment with a scrumptious BBQ to tickle your taste buds. See you there.

Autumn De-Clutter.

De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Autumn collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Senior: Following Tipperary’s win in the Munster Final, the North Tipp Senior Hurling Championship quarter final against Kildangan takes place this Sunday in Cloughjordan at 6.30pm. Best of luck to the players and mentors and we urge a big Lorrha support to attend.

Junior Hurling: Lorrha have a bye in round 2 and will be away to Shannon Rovers in the next round of the championship on weekend 19 or 26 July.

Minor: Two goals from Niall McIntyre weren’t enough as Lorrha suffered a disappointing 1-15 to 2-7 defeat to Shannon Rovers Gaels in their second game of the championship in Moatfield last Wednesday. This evening (Wednesday) Lorrha play Borrisokane in Borrisokane at 7.30pm

Under 16: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers were away to Templederry last Monday in their second game of the championship. Next Monday, 20th July, they play Burgess in Ballinderry at 7.00pm

Under 14: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers suffered their first loss in the championship last Wednesday with a 2-8 to 2-5 defeat to Silvermines in Ballinderry. With the team having a bye in the next round they have finished second in the group and are through to the semi-finals which take place in mid August.

Under 12: The Under 12’s lost 2-6 to 1-4 away to Moneygall last Friday. The team have a bye this Friday before they return to action on Friday, 24th July with a home game against Templederry.

Tipperary: Well done to Patrick Maher and both the Tipperary senior and minor hurlers in the Munster Finals on Sunday. Also well done to the Tipperary senior footballers in their All Ireland Qualifier v Louth.

Best of luck to Brian Hogan and the Tipperary under 21 hurlers against Limerick in the Munster semi-final this Thursday evening. Also best of luck to the Tipp senior footballers against Tyrone at the weekend.

Cul Camp: The Lorrha Kelloggs Cul Camp got underway in Moatfield on Monday morning and continues until Friday. Report next week.

Social Dancing: continues on Friday night to the music of Walk the Line. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.
