News From Lorrha School.

Blue Star Programme. After completing the Blue Star programme we received our blue flag and certificates last week. We were complimented by the adjudicators on our “standard of reports which was exceedingly high and we were bowled over by the clever and creative ways you interpreted the programme”. We will be raising the flag on our last day in school which is Friday 26th. All are welcome to attend.

Graduation Service. Our Annual Graduation Service will take place on Friday 26th at 10am. Students who completed the German classes and exams will be presented with their certificates and this will be followed by the raising of our first Blue Star Flag. All are invited to attend.

Congratulations to all our pupils who attended the Phelan Mullen Feis which was held in Banagher recently. Our school was well represented and they took away a haul of medals and trophies. Well done to all.

Former European Parliament employee’s visit.

Elizabeth Fogarty, former EU employee visited us recently and gave a very interesting and informative power point presentation on the E.U. explaining how it works and what it means to Ireland to be a part of it. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed her visit and had loads of questions afterwards for her. Our thanks to Elizabeth for sharing her knowledge and experience of life in the EU with us.

Summer Camp.

“Little Feet” Bredagh, Lorrha will hold their summer camp from 20th to 24th July from 9.30am to 2pm for children aged 2 and a half up to 12 years. Activities will vary to suit age group and will include hockey, hurling football, tennis, art and craft, sand and water, y bikes and many, many more. Art Exhibition at the Red Horse Gallery,

A art exhibition will be held in Graigueagowan, Portumna on July 3rd – 5th, open 3-7pm daily. Opening night: Thursday, July 2nd at 7pm. Exhibiting artists: Ruth Eva Morrissey, Diana Marshall, Ute Duggan, Jason Madden.  Phone 085-1841243. All welcome.

Well Done.

Congratulations is extended to Fr. John Donnelly (Rathcabbin) who was presented with a framed photograph of his National School days in Kinnitty, during the Bicentenary celebrations of St Flannan’s Church on Sunday last. Fr. John is in his 67th year of priesthood. Well done Fr. John and many good wishes for the future.

Fundraiser.

A coffey morning will take place in Kelly’s Shop Rathcabbin this coming Friday morning 26th. from 10am to 12 noon in aid of breast cancer Ireland. Your support would be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause.

Recent Wedding.

Congratulations is extended to Gerald Power, son of David and Jacinta, Lorrha and Claudia Darley who were married on May 29th in Dublin. The couple will spend their honeymoon in Tanzania and we extend many good wishes to them as they settle down to married life in Kells, Co. Meath.

Good Luck.

The best of luck is extended to Caoimhe Kennedy and Tipperary senior camogie team as they open their All-Ireland Championship campaign against Derry on Saturday coming the 27th in The Ragg camogie pitch at 2.30pm.

Tidy Towns.

Another work evening will be held in Lorrha on Wednesday 24th. Meet outside the hall at 7.30pm. If this time doesn’t suit you, do come along at a time that does. All help appreciated.

Church News.

Pilgrimage.

The Annual Killaloe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place on Sunday,5th July. Names to  Gertie O’Meara – 090  – 9747080  or  Betty Houlihan  087 –  6667374.          Please book your seat as soon as possible.

Cemetery Mass.

Mass will be celebrated  in Lorrha Cemetery on Sunday 5th July at 10 am, (weather permitting).    All who have loved ones buried in the graveyard are invited to attend.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the Darcy families Lorrha on the death of their sister Teresa (Tina) Robb, Dublin who died on Wednesday 17th June. After funeral Mass on Friday last in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Terryglass, burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp

Redwood NS will be holding a Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp from Monday June 29th to Friday 3rd July and from Monday July 6th  to Friday July 10th in the school from 9.30am to 2.30 pm. Activities include hands on science experiments, design and make, photography, cookery, photostory, powerpoint, nature trails, aistear (learning through play) and lots and lots more!! The camp is €40 per child with discounts for families. The camps are open to children from 4 to 13 years old. Summer De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Summer collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

 

North Tipp Ploughing Reminder.

Any members wishing to travel to the Netherlands to support Ethan Harding in the European championships in September please contact Denis on (087)7793719. Ethan qualified for the European Vintage Ploughing Championships after winning out his category in the vintage two scrape hydraulic, at the National Ploughing championships in Ratheniska last September 2014. Driving a 1956 Ferguson 35 four cylinder diesel tractor and pulling a two scrape Ransom TS59 model vintage plough, Ethan creating history not just for himself, but also for the N.T.P.A. as no other person has qualified on their first attempt. This is a great achievement for the young Borrisokane plough man who will go on to represent Ireland in Veendam which is 215 km North East of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands on Sunday 20th September 2015. You can follow the North Tipp Ploughing progress under lorrhadorrha.ie under clubs.

Lorrha GAA News.

Senior: Following a request by the Tipperary senior hurling management, the North Tipp Senior Hurling Championship quarter final against Kildangan due to have been played this Sunday evening has been postponed.

Junior Hurling: The North Championship is due to get underway on weekend 4-5 July against Toomevara. Nenagh Eire Og, Shannon Rovers and Ballina are also in the group.

Minor: Lorrha will play Ballina in the opening round of the North Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship in Moatfield this Thursday, 25th June at 7.30pm. Best of luck to the panel and mentors.

Under 16: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers get their ‘B’ Championship campaign underway next Monday, 29th June against Newport Gaels in Ballinderry at 7.00pm.

Under 14: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers made it three wins from three in the hurling championship with a 5-8 to 3-9 over Newport Gaels in Newport last Wednesday. This Thursday evening, 25th June, they have a friendly with Templederry in Ballinderry at 7pm. Next Wednesday, 1st July, they are away to Portroe in another friendly.

Under 12: The Under 12’s suffered two defeats to Newport Gaels, 7-5 to 2-3 and Borrisokane, 3-5 to 3-2 over the past week. This Friday, 26th June, Lorrha host Portroe in Moatfield at 7.00pm.

Tipperary: Well done to Patrick Maher and the Tipperary senior hurlers on their victory over Limerick on Sunday. Best of luck to the minor hurlers against Clare this evening (Wednesday)

Cul Camp: This years Lorrha Kelloggs Cul Camp takes place in Moatfield from 13th to 17th July from 10am to 2.30pm inclusive. All registration must be done online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie
