Crinkill  (Birr) man Michael Geraghty is ordained to the priesthood on Sunday last June 14th by Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr. Fr. Geraghty will serve in the Killaloe Diocese.  We congratulate Michael and wish him well in the years ahead.

Active Retirement.

The local active retirement group will hold their last meeting for the summer on Wednesday 24th June in Lorrha Hall. We are having a barbecue with music afterwards starting at 1pm. We have several outings arranged during the summer months, details from Nancy at (090) 9747922. We would like to see all our members on the 24th so do try to attend. July 8th we have a boat trip on the Shannon, August 6th we visit the Rock of Cashel, and August 21st we go greyhound racing in Galway. All members welcome on all our outings.

Summer Camp.

“Little Feet” Bredagh, Lorrha will hold their summer camp from 20th to 24th July from 9.30am to 2pm for children aged 2 and a half up to 12 years. Activities will vary to suit age group and will include hockey, hurling football, tennis, art and craft, sand and water, y bikes and many, many more. Church News.

Congratulations to Monsignor Harry Bugler, Lordspark (and New Orleans) who is celebrating forty years of Priesthood this June. We also congratulate Fr. Michael Geraghty, Crinkill, who was ordained to the Priesthood for the Killaloe Diocese, on Sunday last in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr.   Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  continues  every Thursday from 10am to 10pm in Rathcabbin  Church.

Cemetery Mass.

Mass will be celebrated  in Lorrha Cemetery on Sunday 5th July at 10 am, (weather permitting).    All who have loved ones buried in the graveyard are invited to attend.

Please Note.

Open meeting in relation to the establishment of a Graveyard Committee will be held in Lorrha Hall on Tuesday 23rd June, at 9pm.  All interested parties are welcome.

Summer De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Summer collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Can You Spare One Hour?

Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns are holding a work evening around the village on Wednesday evening 17th . Meet outside the hall at 7.30pm. If this time is not suitable, do come along when you are ready. Please try and be there as many hands make light work.

North Tipp Ploughing.

Any members wishing to travel to the Netherlands to support Ethan Harding in the European championships in September please contact Denis on (087)7793719. Ethan qualified for the European Vintage Ploughing Championships after winning out his category in the vintage two scrape hydraulic, at the National Ploughing championships in Ratheniska last September 2014. Driving a 1956 Ferguson 35 four cylinder diesel tractor and pulling a two scrape Ransom TS59 model vintage plough, Ethan creating history not just for himself, but also for the N.T.P.A. as no other person has qualified on their first attempt. This is a great achievement for the young Borrisokane plough man who will go on to represent Ireland in Veendam which is 215 km North East of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands on Sunday 20th September 2015. You can following the North Tipp Ploughing progress under lorrhadorrha.ie under clubs.

Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp

Redwood NS will be holding a Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp from Monday June 29th to Friday 3rd July and from Monday July 6th  to Friday July 10th in the school from 9.30am to 2.30 pm. Activities include hands on science experiments, design and make, photography, cookery, photostory, powerpoint, nature trails, aistear (learning through play) and lots and lots more!! The camp is €40 per child with discounts for families. The camps are open to children from 4 to 13 years old. Congratulations is extended to the Lorrha Junior “B” team who defeated Portroe in the final on Sunday evening in Puckane. This is Lorrha’s second consecutive year to claim the title. Well done lads.

Portumna & District Lions Club Annual Fun Cycle

Get on yer bike on Sunday, 21st June during Portumna’s Super Summer Fair  This year’s selected local charity is St. Dympna’s Centre and we need cyclists of all ages! There are prizes for funniest bike/cyclist, best individual/club fundraised etc. You can get a sponsor card from 087-7427950 – it’s only €2 a line. Or donations are accepted on the day. No entry fee. Come and join in the fun and do some good for your local community at the same time!

GAA News.

Lotto: Our jackpot is now €4,500. Thank you for your continued support. You can play our lotto online at www.locallotto.ie where it is easy to play every week. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.

Senior: Lorrha suffered a disappointing 1-23 to 0-13 defeat to Nenagh Eire Og in the semi-final of the Dr Fogarty County Challenge Cup Final in Nenagh on Friday evening. Our next game will be in the quarter final of the North Tipp Senior Hurling Championship against Kildangan in Cloughjordan on Sunday, 28th June at 7pm.

Junior Hurling: Well done to the Junior hurlers who retained the North Tipp Junior ‘B’ League title following a 1-20 to 1-12 final victory over Portroe in Puckane on Sunday evening. Ronan O’Meara’s second half goal turned the game in Lorrha’s favour with Donal Kennedy accepting the trophy following the game. Well done to the players and mentors The North Championship is due to get underway on Saturday, 27th June against Toomevara.

Minor: Lorrha will play Ballina in the opening round of the North Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship on Thursday, 25th June at 7.30pm; venue to be confirmed.

Under 14: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers continued their good start to the hurling championship with a 0-14 to 1-3 win over Moneygall/Clonakenny in Moatfield last week. This evening (Wednesday), they are away to Newport Gaels in Newport at 7pm. Next Wednesday, 24th June, they will have a friendly with Templederry.

Under 12: The U12’s suffered defeat to Borris-Ileigh last Friday night in their second championship game. On Monday evening, Lorrha hosted Newport but there was no result at the time of going to press. This Friday, 19th June, Lorrha host Borrisokane in Moatfield at 6.30pm.

Tipperary v Limerick: Best of luck to Patrick Maher and the Tipperary senior and junior hurlers against Limerick in the championship this Sunday. Hard luck to the Tipp senior and junior footballers following their defeats to Kerry last Sunday.

Cul Camp: This years Lorrha Kelloggs Cul Camp takes place in Moatfield from 13th to 17th July from 10am to 2.30pm inclusive. All registration must be done online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie
