104 year old Bridie Daly (nee Duggan) was over from Boston recently visiting her relatives in Tipperary, Galway and Cork. Originally from Moyglass, Loughrea, Bridie who is sister of the late Tom Duggan, Portland, Lorrha emigrated to the U.S. in 1929. She comes over every two years to visit all the families and on a recent visit to her nieces and nephews – the Duggan family Portland, she met up with local P.P. Fr. Pat Mulcahy. Bridie was accompanied on this trip by her 84 year old brother Kevin, her daughter Mary Anne and son in-law Bill.  

Late Tommy Mannion.

The sudden and unexpected death occurred on Thursday June 4th of Tommy Mannion, Sandyford, Dublin and formally Lorrha.

Born 70 years ago and raised in Curraghgloss, Lorrha, T.J. as he was affectionaly known, was a post man working out of Foxrock sorting station. He also spent a short number of years working from Birr Post Office in the early ‘80’s. He loved his work which he retired from four years ago. He always kept in touch with happenings in the parish and visited family regurarly. Sympathy is extended to his wife Mary, sons Derek (Lorrha), Thomas, Paul (Dublin), John (England), daughters Linda and Carmel (Dublin), daughters in-law, grandchildren, brothers Mike, Eamon, Liam & Sean, sister Kathleen, aunt Bridie, aunts in-law, sisters-in-law, brother in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. After funeral Mass on Monday 8th in St. Mary’s Church, Sandyford, burial took place in Kilmashogue Cemetery, Dublin. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Tony Coen and family Lorrha on the death of his sister recently in the U.S. May she rest in peace.

Church News.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  continues  every Thursday from 10am to 10pm in Rathcabbin  Church. Friday next 12th June is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Saturday 13th June is the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Summer De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Summer collection? LorrhaDevelopment/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Redwood School.

Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp

Redwood NS will be holding a Science & Computing Activity Summer Camp from Monday June 29th to Friday 3rd July and from Monday July 6th  to Friday July 10th in the school from 9.30am to 2.30 pm. Activities include hands on science experiments, design and make, photography, cookery, photostory, powerpoint, nature trails, aistear (learning through play) and lots and lots more!! The camp is €40 per child with discounts for families. The camps are open to children from 4 to 13 years old. Active Week

Redwood NS took part in Active week last week. Active week is a schools initiative that involves taking part in some form of physical activity each day to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Tuesday – Everyone walked to Redwood Castle where we had a very interesting guided tour with Colessa Egan. Colessa told the story of the castle and pointed out interesting features and showed the children the Leabhar Breac. Later in the day the children enjoyed a Zumba dance lesson with Maggie Duff from The Engine Room in Portumna.

Wednesday – The children took part in hurling training, rounders and tennis coaching with GAA trainer Jimmy Dunne and Tennis Coach Miss. Darcy

Thursday – Parents Declan Houlihan and Iggy McDonagh gave a badminton lesson in the GAA sports complex and the children also took part in Athletics training

Friday – The children took part in Golf coaching provided by Justin O’Byrne from Junior Golf ireland in the GAA complex. The children had Gymnastics with their teacher also

Redwood NS would like to thank all who helped out during Active Week and to the GAA for the use of their facilities.

Summer Camp.

Lorrha GAA News.

Senior: Lorrha will play Nenagh Eire Og in the semi-final of the County Challenge Cup in Nenagh this Friday, 12th June at 7.45pm.

The North Senior Hurling Championship quarter final draw was due to take place on Monday night but it was not known at the time of going to press. This game is expected to be played on weekend 27-28 June.

Junior Hurling: The Junior ‘B’ Hurlers progressed to the North League Final following a 4-15 to 0-10 win over Moneygall in the semi-final in Cloughjordan on Sunday evening. Goals from Noel Hogan, David Fogarty and two from Trevor Hogan.

Lorrha will play Portroe in the final this Sunday evening, 14th June in Puckane at 7.30pm. Best of luck to the players and mentors.   The North Championship is due to get underway in the coming weeks with Lorrha to play Toomevara in the opening round.

Under 14: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers got their North ‘B’ Hurling Championship underway last Wednesday with an impressive 4-18 to 1-4 win over Burgess in Kilcoleman. This Wednesday (this evening), they play Moneygall/Clonakenny in Moatfield at 7.00pm. Next Wednesday, 17th June they are away to Newport Gaels in Newport at 7pm

Under 12: The U12’s began their ‘B’ hurling championship campaign last Friday against Kilruane MacDonaghs but lost 3-3 to 1-1. This Friday evening, Lorrha face Borris-Ileigh in Borrisoleigh at 6.30pm and on Monday evening, 15th June, Lorrha host Newport in Moatfield at 6.30pm.

Nicky Rackard Cup Final: Well done to Ronan O’Meara who was on the Roscommon senior hurling team that won the Nicky Rackard Cup final at Croke Park last Saturday, defeating Armagh in the final.

Tipperary v Limerick Tickets: Orders for Tipperary v Limerick tickets must be with Shane Brophy (0876989612) by no later than next Sunday night, 14th June. Only orders from paid up members will be accepted. Family tickets available.

Tipperary Clubs Draw: Thank you to all those who registered with the club to take part in the 2015-2016 Tipperary Draw which began last Friday. Unfortunately we had no winner this month.
