North Tipperary Ploughing committee presented cups and trophies to the North Tipp winners of the recent local 50th Anniversary championships held on the lands of the Lambe family. The presentation took place in Kelly’s Rathcabbin. Front from left: Owen Clancy, (Rathcabbin), intermediate Loy confined, Sackie O’Brien, (Rathcabbin) intermediate Loy confined, Joe Slattery, (Kilbarron) senior reversible and also accepted the cup for his father John in senior conventional, Denis Cahalan, (Nenagh) committee secretary.  Back: Mark Kennedy (Rathcabbin) on behalf of his nephew Michael for minor Loy, James Hough, (Rathcabbin) single furrow, Ethan Harding, (Borrisokane), 2 furrow vintage. Ethan will also represent Ireland in the European Vintage Ploughing Championships which takes place in The Netherlands next September, Tadhg Milne for his son Ciaran, 3 furrow conventional, National Director Denis Duffy for Jack Ryan, novice Loy, Chairman Eamon Murphy for his son Liam, under 21 conventional, Treasurer Tom Duffy, intermediate conventional.

Active Retirement.

A reminder to our members that at 2pm on Wednesday 20th may we have a tribute to Mick Delahunt. Non members welcome. On Tuesday 26th May there is a trade and tourism fayre in the Radison Hotel in Galway. There will be no meeting on the 27th May.

A Note of Thanks.

Local Artist Ute Duggan wishes to extend thanks to all her art students for their participation in this year’s children’s art exhibition in Portumna library, to their parents for all their support and to Theresa Tierney and Mary Hourigan for their generous help at all times. It was a wonderful success!

Church News.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  continues  every Thursday from 10am to 10pm in Rathcabbin  Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of  the Lord.  Congratulations to the children of the Parish who receive their First Holy Communion in Lorrha Church on Sunday last.Lorrha School.

Congratulations is extended to Ceri, Conor and Kian who received their First Holy Communion on Sunday last in St. Ruadhan’s Church. Well done also to the choir, teachers, parents, Fr. Pat and Sr. Brid.

Redwood NS After School Homework Club

Rathcabbin National School

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who received their first holy communion in Lorrha church at the weekend, it was a lovely ceremony reflecting all the preparation by the children, parents, teachers and Sr Brid.

Best wishes to our sixth class pupils who will receive their confirmation on Sunday week the 24th in Rathcabbin Church.

Food Dudes is currently running in the school to promote healthy eating, the children get to sample a variety of fruits and vegetables and they receive rewards and certification for their efforts.

Tennis lessons have started again for the summer term every Tuesday. Our hurling team are busy with after school training for the Cuman na Mbunscol championship.

The children will also be participating in athletics in Borrisokane on Wednesday May 13th , Good Luck!

The school garden is growing well with each class planting new vegetables and some will be ready join the food dudes soon.

Finally, thanks to everyone for supporting our recent book fair, we raised €723 which we will use to buy new resources for our school library.

Silver Circle.

Portumna Social Services Committee will be running their annual Silver Circle Draw in aid of the Day Care Centre, for their senior citizens, over the next few weeks. Please support. If anyone would like to help by taking a card and selling lines the committee would be very grateful.

De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.
