Lorrha Development Association / Tidy Towns recently made a contribution to the North Tipperary Hospice from the sale of the used clothing collection (De-Clutter) which is ongoing. North Tipperary Hospice wish to express their thanks for the money donated by all those who attended the BBQ and music night held recently in McCormack of Abbeyville. They have informed the organizers (Lorrha Development Association)  that a total of €332 was in the box when opened.  Lorrha Development Association join with North Tipp Hospice to offer sincere thanks to one and all and to our many sponsors who donated food for the BBQ and music on the night.

 

Church News.

Adoration of the Blessed sacrament is spreading to many parishes in the Diocese of Killaloe. Why? God Calling! Have you got one hour in the week to spare? Adoration is coming to the parish next week.
Invitation to spend an hour before the Blessed Sacrament. There will be a meeting of helpers on Thursday night (9th Oct) at 8pm in Rathcabbin Church. Presentation by Eucharistic Adorers will be at Masses on 11th & 12th Oct.

Youth Choir.

Alleluia Chorus Youth Choir will begin again on Thursday 9th October, 5.30 – 7pm at Rathcabbin Church. New members welcome.

National Conference.

The Pro Life Campaign National Conference will be held in the RDS, Dublin on Saturday, 11th October 2014 from 1.30-4.30pm. The Conference will update the public on the current situation as regards the protection of the unborn and their mothers and present an opportunity to listen to excellent speakers from Ireland and abroad and volunteer for the Pro Life Campaign. Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Jos O’Meara and family, Portland on the death of her mother Mary Quinn, Newcastle West which occurred on Monday 29th September. After funeral Mass in Carrigkerry Church on October 1st. burial took place in Ardagh cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Rathcabbin Players A.G.M Reminder.

The Annual General Meeting of Rathcabbin Players will take place on Wednesday night October 8th at 9pm in Rathcabbin Hall. We hope to see all the old familiar faces on the night and we welcome anyone who is interested in getting involved with the group either on or off stage. All are welcome.

Well Done George.

Congratulations is extended to George Harding (Lorrha), a pupil in Portumna Community School, who along with fellow students Keith Scully (Tynagh), and Niall Duane (Tynagh) have been chosen by the State Examinations Commission and the Irish EU Science Olympiad at Dublin City University as among the top performing students in the country in Maths and Science in the Junior Cert 2014. All three boys now have a chance to compete for a place to represent Ireland in the international Olympiad in Argentina in December and Austria next May. George is a former pupil of Lorrha N.S. where the seed was first sown. Well done George and continued success.

Autumn De-Clutter.

Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Autumn months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Autumn collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep three adults employed.

The Country Boy.

Athlone Little Theatre present the John Murphy’s classic ‘The Country Boy’ to raise funds for the Ardagh Clonmacnoise Assisted Pilgrims Fund.
‘The Country Boy’ is Murphy’s classic and much loved tale of emigration. Funds raised enable the Assisted Pilgrims Fund to being people to Lourdes every year. The play will be staged in Tuar Ard, Moate on Sunday, 12th October 0906482042, Cloghan Community Hall on Friday, 17th October and Athlone Little Theatre from the 9th to the 14th of November 0906474324.

Portumna & District Lions Club Annual Fun Cycle.

Get on yer bike on Sunday, 12th Oct. in support of this year’s selected local charity: Men’s Shed Portumna. We need cyclists – prizes for funniest bike/cyclist, best individual/club fundraised etc. You can get a sponsor card from 087-1524300 – only €2 a line. Or donations accepted on the day! No entry fee. Come and join in the fun & do some good for your local community at the same time!!!

Courses.

Portumna College of Further Education, St. Brigid’s Rd, Portumna will be running two FETAC Level 5 courses beginning shortly. The courses offered are Tourism with Business 5M5011 and Retail Practice 5M2105.
