Youth Summer Festival Reminder.

Cistercian College, Roscrea, from Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th August, 2014.  For young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people.  This festival has been nicknamed the “Holy Oxygen” with over 1000young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year.  The festival is donation only.  Free buses available from towns throughout Ireland. First Friday.

Mass for First Friday Aug 1st will be celebrated in Lorrha at 9.30a.m.  Rathcabbin at 8.00p.m.   Confessions before both Masses.

Night Vigil to Knock Shrine – Friday, 1st August.   Bus leaves Birr at 5.15p.m. (approx).  Please give names to Gertie O’Meara at 090  –  9747080  or Betty Houlihan at  087-6667374.

National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine is on Sunday 14th September.  Chief celebrant Archbishop Charles Browne (Apostolic Nuncio).  Anointing of the sick @ 2.00pm followed by Mass @ 3.00pm.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of the late  Margaret Cleary, Latteragh, Nenagh, nee Ogle – late of Walshpark, Rathcabbin, who died on Saturday 19th July. After funeral Mass in Templederry Church on Wednesday 23rd burial took place in Templederry new cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Summer De-Clutter.

Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep three adults employed.

Music in The Home.

St. Kieran’s Nursing Home Rathcabbin, are having a very good traditional accordion band called Peter Smith and Friends coming to visit on Sunday the 3rd of August between 2 and 4pm  The residents in the nursing home love when people from outside come to visit so Matt, Eoin and staff would like to make an open invitation to anyone from the parish and beyond to come along for singing and dancing.  They would love to see as many faces as possible. Food and refreshments will be provided afterwards and everyone is welcome.

Birr Library are organising several events for Vitnage week such as a book launch of Eileen Casey’s new book – A fascination with fabric on Thursday 7th August at 4.45pm

Library voices – Meet Alison Jameson and Donal Ryan on Friday 8th August at 8pm and Gerard O’Meara’s lecture on Satuday 9th August at 11am – Lorrha, Birr and the Great War.

Birr Vintage Week.

The 46th Annual Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival gets under way on Friday August 1st. and continues throughout the week until Aug. 8th. There is something here for everyone, young and not so young with shows, workshops and entertainment throughout the week. The highlight of the week is the opening parade which takes place on Sunday coming August 3rd from 3.00p.m outside the Marian Hall. Congratulations and good wishes is extended to Patrick “Bonner” Maher and the Tipperary team on their great win over Dublin in the All-Ireland Quarter final in Semple Stadium on Sunday last. Well done Bonner.

New Science Centre Opens in Birr Castle.

A new science centre, the brainchild of Lady Alicia Clements, daughter of Lord and Lady Rosse, has officially opened to the public at Birr Castle and gardens. Suitable for all age groups, it’s a fasinating display and well worth a visit. For further information call (086) 8114944.
