Turf bank owners in Redwood bog North Tipperary out in force footing their turf, exercising their rights to cut turf on their own property. This season, more turf has been cut than last, by turf bank owners. This group of people have no wish to re-locate to Sharragh bog some miles away, which has no proper access and has extremely poor turf. As pointed out in Judge Quirke report, there is need for a change in the National Parks personnel.  We the bog owners, experience nothing else only intimidation and no possibility of reasoning with them.

Lorrha Development.

Tidy Towns judging is in full swing and we are usually visited during the month of June. Sincere thanks to everyone for helping with work around the village, and do please continue with the good work of keeping the village looking it’s best. Hopefully the act of vandalism caused in spraying the grass area in the village, will not cost us marks. We appeal to anyone who may have seen anything or those who know anything regarding this incident to please contact the Gardai in Borrisokane who are investigating the matter on (067) 27160.

News From Lorrh School.

Commiserations to the Lorrha/Redwood hurling team who lost the County Final to Annacarty by two points on Wednesday last in Semple Stadium. This was a game that Lorrha should have won as they raced into an early lead through Colm Fogarty but Annacarty came back at them and despite pulling out all the stops in the last half, an Mike Houlihan effort to draw the game, went over instead of under and Lorrha were down two points on the final whistle. The panel of players: Tom Duggan (L), Courtney Houlihan (R), Daniel Madden, Jack Moran, Mikie Houlihan, Ronan O’Meara, Colm Fogarty (L), Dan Needham (R),Cathal Molloy (R), Dylan Mannion, Cian Cannion, Ronan Shewbridge. Many thanks to James and Katie for coaching the team throughout the year.

Well done to our pupils who won medals recently for their tennis skills in the schools competition. We also congratulate our pupils who won medals and trophies recently when they participated in the Feis competition which was organised by Grainne McLoughlin and held in Banagher. We have always been very successful in Feis competitions down through the years, with many of our pupils winning more than one category and this year was no exception. We also congratulate Tom Duggan, Mikie Houlihan, Daniel Madden and Colm Fogarty who participated recently in a football skills competition which was held in Thurles. We were placed in fifth place in Tipperary and were less than twenty points away from the overall winner who were Thurles. Thanks to James for travelling with the lads and well done. Indeed well done all our medal winners.

School Tours. Our senior classes travelled to Clare for their school tour recently and had a wonderful day out while our juniors travelled to Glendeer Pet Farm in Athlone and were delighted to view all the animals there even getting the opportunity to feed them. All had a marvellous time and enjoyed the day away from the books.
