Redwood NS have produced a book in conjunction with the upcoming reunion on June 7th. We would like to sincerely thank Seamus King, Pat Hough and Fionnuala Cahalan for their great work in writing articles for this book. We would also like to thank all those who contributed so many fantastic photos. The book includes photos from 1914 to the present day and also details the founding of the original national school in 1879. This book is available to buy for €10 from the school (090)9747186, Pat Hough’s Pub and shops throughout the locality. Pupils in the school enjoying the contents at the launch of the book last week.

North Tipperary Ploughing Honour Their President.

Members of the North Tipperary Ploughing committee gathered in The Yanks, Borrisokane last week to pay a surprise tribute to their President, Rathcabbin lady Eileen Duffy, who celebrated her 80th birthday in recent weeks. A hard working and dedicated member of the ploughing committee and President for a long number of years, Eileen had no idea what the gathering was all about and received the surprise of her life. Secretary Denis Cahalan made a suitable presentation to the very surprised recipient. Happy birthday and well done Eileen and you are wished many more good and healthy years ahead. The committee also extended get well wishes to their Chairman Eamon Murphy who was unable to attend on the night.

 News From Lorrha School.

Well done to the Lorrha/Redwood hurling team who were crowned North champions after a thrilling final against Kilbarron on Wednesday 21st May. The team came away with a one point victory and we extend the best of luck to them and their mentors in the County Final which will take place in early June. We also extend congratulations to our Green Flag committee who were presented with the school’s third green flag at the awards ceremony which took place in Kilkenny also on Wednesday 21st.  Avie, Niamh and Scott represented our school on the day. Wednesday 21st was a busy and rewarding day for our school. Well done all.

 Youth Ministry Studies Certificate Programme

An accredited Training Programme for Voluntary and Professional Youth Ministry Leaders will be held from Sept 2014 – Sept 2016(8 weekends over 2 years). Sponsored by the Redemptorists in Ireland and accredited by St. Mary’s University College (Q.U.B.) and the centre for Ministry Development in the U.S.A.  €50 Registration Fee.  Course will be partly subsidised.  For further information and Application form please contact Fr. Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee at (086) 8647166. We can collect your unwanted items. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing  work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep three adults employed.

Congratulations and well done to Councillor Michael O’Meara who has retained his seat on the new Tipperary County Council committee which will commence from June 1st. It will be more important than ever before that our parish is represented on this new set up and we wish Michael the very best of luck in the years ahead.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The Committee and members of St. Ruadhans Active Retirement Association would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the Nevin and Fallon families on the recent death of Sarah Nevin, a very gentle and lovely lady who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.  Also we would like to express our sympathy to the Tom and Billy Dagg  and family on the recent death of their sister Lil Smith, the Coen Family on the death of Tony’s brother Fr. Michael Coen, to Gay Needham on the recent death of her brother Seamus McCarthy and to Therese Donoghue on the recent death of her sister in law Carmel Kelly (Trim). May they all rest in peace.

Redwood NS Reunion

We are holding our reunion for past pupils and members of the locality on Saturday 7th June. The school will be open to visitors from 3-4pm for people to view the roll books, (which date back to 1879), collections of photographs and the folklore commission provided by the historical society. Redwood Castle will also be open during the day for tours. A special Mass will be held at 7pm in Redwood Church, following which presentations will be made by Seamus King and Pat Hough to our most senior past pupils. Then it is back to the clubhouse for a buffet meal and dancing to the music of Pat & Richie. Tradstone will cap off what is a great night’s entertainment. Tickets are €10 and are on sale throughout the parish. All are welcome to this special occasion.

For one night only! Portumna Arts Group is delighted to welcome the Galway-based Mephisto Theatre Company with their production of Blackbird by David Harrower to the Town Hall, Portumna on Sunday, June 8th @ 8.30pm. Tickets €8 at the door.
