Lorrha Juniors

The Lorrha Junior girls played in their first 7’s in Kilmacud Crokes in Dublin on Saturday, It was a great days camogie and the girls unlucky not to get to the Shield Semi finals loosing out by 2 points. They played 4 games and won 3 lost one by the 2 points. Well done to all the girls and Colm, Jimmy and physio David Broderick.
We now play Cahir in the 4th round of the Junior A Championship on this Sunday at 12noon in Cahir, the girls will progress to a Semi final stage if they win on Sunday good luck to all and please come and show your support!

Lorrha Achieves Further Success.

Lorrha achieved a further seven Marks in the Tidy Towns Competition which brings their points up to 289 in Category A. The adjudicator gave a very positive and encouraging report which can be downloaded on www.tidytowns.ie or if anyone would like a paper copy to read, do call Mary on ( 087) 2601413, Louis on ( 086) 8493595, Rose on (086) 8647166.  Lorrha Development / Tidy Towns committee wish to extend many thanks to all volunteers who have helped them in whatever way to achieve these fine marks, especially John and Michael our two scheme men who are doing trojan work. As always, your support is vital and necessary and is also showing wonderful results. Thank you one and all.

Annual General Meeting.

Lorrha Development / Tidy Towns Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday night September 25th in Lorrha Hall at 8p.m. Do come along and support the  committee. All are welcome.

Unwanted Clothes Collection.

Lorrha Development / Tidy Towns are presently organizing an unwanted clothes collection and are asking you to donate any unwanted items to them. The collection point will be outside Lorrha Hall on Friday October 4th  (polling Day) and again on Friday October 11th .  We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. Unwanted items can also be collected by calling (086) 8493595/ (086) 8647166/ (087) 2601413. We appreciate your support and money raised goes back into the village.

Tractor Charity Run.

A charity tractor/vintage run will be held on Sunday 29th September starting at 12.30 in Rathcabbin  to raise funds for Rathcabbin Development Association and Borrisokane Community College Autism Unit. A raffle for trailers of wood and turf will be drawn on the night -€5 tickets on sale soon. Your support will be gratefully appreciated.  

Date For Your Diary.

Lorrha National School Parents Association are holding a fundraising dance in the GAA clubhouse in Moatfield on Saturday 2nd November at 10p.m. Music will be provided by “Outa Diesel”. Door prizes of TV’s and a hamper. Great music, great door prizes, and only €10 admission. Tickets can be had by contacting (087) 9191689 / (087) 2984226. This is one night you won’t want to miss.

The Spinning Heart.

Offaly Libraries is proud to host Donal Ryan, his debut novel ‘The Spinning Heart’, long listed for the Man Booker prize 2013, in Birr Library on Friday September 27th at 8.00p.m. Booking essential on (057) 9124950.

Social Dancing.

Social dancing continues in the GAA clubhouse on Friday night with music provided by Nando and Shandy.  Dancing from 9.30 to 12.30.

Energy Scheme Meeting Reminder.

Active Retirement.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement would like to welcome all our members back after our summer break. Lorrha Hall is the venue for our meetings which continue every Wednesday at 2.30 except Wednesday 18th and 25th.

Well Done.

Congratulations is extended to Lorrha woman Suzanne Corcoran who helped bring Gold to Ireland when she competed in the European Senior ladies team golf championship which was held in Slovenia on September 7th. Suzanne who is the Portumna Club President is also the Irish Close Champion and we extend many good wishes to her.

 

Food for Thought: Portumna Country Markets at Shorelines Arts Festival, Portumna Town Hall

Ireland Will Host 2014 European Championships.

It was announced earlier this week that Ireland will host the 2014 European Vintage Ploughing Championships following the success of three Irish men in this year’s event which took place last week-end in Nottingham. Aidan Hogan from Borrisokane took 3rd place with his 1957 Ferguson 25 and a Ransome ’59, 2 furrow plough. Team Ireland also consisted of Aenus Horan , Kerry in the Trailer Vintage Class who came 2nd and Alan Simms, Donegal who came 3rd in the Vinatage Classic Class. Well done to the three Irish men and in particular to local man Aidan.

This year’s National Ploughing Championships will take place in Ratheniska, Co. Laois from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th September.

Courses.

New Day and evening courses will commence soon in Portumna College of Further Education. Enrolment will take place on Monday 23rd from 9a.m. until 9p.m. Further information from (090) 9741946 or (087) 6258696.

U14:
Championship matches did not go ahead as fixed last week but the girls are out this Tuesday 17th against Nenagh at home, Friday Portroe away both at 6.15. Al fixtures, times, training will be text to parents and up on Lorrha Camogie Club’s Facebook page.

County Scene:
Well done to Hazel Reddin and Celine Cleary who were involved in the U14 All Ireland Blitz in Dublin last weekend and the girls got to parade around Croke Park on Sunday too, well done girls!

Lucozade sports drink are offering all teams around Ireland free gear! Lorrha Camogie Club are getting involved and we want your help!
We need to collect as many of the Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Sport Lite bottle caps. We have until the end of October.
So please keep collecting and drop them into Kellys Shop Rathcabbin, Mahers shop Lorrha or give to any member of the Camogie panel!
Training gear like cones, balls, Bibs, Water Bottles are vital to the running of the Club so please try and collect as many as you can!
