 Ploughing Championships.

The North Tipperary Ploughing Championships will take place on Sunday March 3rd on the lands of Andrew and Diane Dagg, Lorrha by kind permission. Ideally located beside the main Birr toPortumna Road at Bredagh, proceedings get under way at 12.30p.m.sharp. Refreshments and side attractions on the day. All are welcome.

 Important Notice For All Property Owners.

For the first time in the history of the Irish State four men are summoned to appear at Loughrea District Court on Wednesday March 6th 2013 at11.00a.m. for allegedly cutting turf on privately owned bog. The Irish State secretly classified the property as a European Site (S.A.C.) without the consent or knowledge of the owners. Will your property be taken next? Do you know if you still own it? This is your opportunity to stand up for your  constitutional rights and come to Loughrea to support these four men. Bring a friend or two with you.

Friday March 1st is the First Friday with Mass in Lorrha at9.30a.m. and Rathcabbin at7.30p.m.

 St. John Bosco Relic to Ireland will visit Marion Shrine at Knock. A Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Michael Casey SBD, and transmitted on television by RTE on Sunday 3rd March at 11.00a.m. Further details available on the web site www.donboscorelics.ie

 Opening Windows Conference Reminder.

A conference, reliving Vatican11, will be held in the Clare Inn Hotel, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, on Saturday 23rd March from 9.45am to 3.45pm. Bishop Kieran, Julie Kavanagh, Aoife McGrath, Fr. Liam Lawton and Fr. Dermot Ryan will share insights on key themes from the Second Vatican Council. Each parish is invited to ask two parishioners to attend. The conference is free of charge and lunch will be provided. Registration forms are available in your parish. Completed forms should be sent by email to openingwindows@outlook.com or forwarded by post to Fr. Albert McDonnell, Westbourne, Ennis, Co. Clare by 28th February.

Congratulations and well done to Aoife Mounsey who recently won a bronze medal in the Junior Ladies Triple Jump competition at the National Indoor Championships which were held in Athlone recently for all second level students. This is a very significant achievement for the 15 year oldPortumnaCommunitySchoolstudent, as she will be eligible to compete in the event for the next five years. Daughter of Seamus and Margaret from Redwood, Aoife is wished many more successful years ahead on the athletic track.

Redwood N.S.are holding their annual Open Day on Saturday, 2nd March. There will be a programme of events commencing at 2 p.m.

Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha are holding their annual Open Day on Wednesday 6th March from 1.00 to 3.00p.m. Enrolment forms for September 2013 will be available on the day or by dropping into the school or contacting (090) 9747295. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The AGM of St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association took place on Wednesday 20th and the following were elected. Chairman: Tim Kelly, Vice-Chairman: Eamon Mannion, Treasurer: Tom Dagg, Assistant Treasurer: Betty Houlihan, Secretary: Nancy White, Assistant Secretary: Marie O’Meara. PRO: Mary Darcy. Committee Members: Lily Darcy, Sheila Dillon, Gaye Needham, Bridget Madden, Barry O’Brien, Betty Reddish. We continue to meet every Wednesday at2.30p.m. in Lorrha Hall. Our members continue to grow. Please join us, you will be made very welcome. Margaret Guilfoyle visited us from the Carrig & Riverstown Active Retirement. Margaret is the new Mid West Regional secretary. Congratulations to Nancy who is now chairperson of the Mid West Region.

Gratitude.

The Irish Wheelchair Association North Tipperary would like to thank everyone who contributed to their church gate collection in Lorrha last week, the collection totalled €559.60. The funds raised will be used to help maintain local services.

Hard Luck.

Commiserations to Caoimhe Kennedy and the Tipperarysenior camogie team who lost their opening League game to Corkon Sunday last in Cork. Playing at mid field, Caoimhe was showing good form until forced off at the interval with a foot problem. However, despite loosing the game, Caoimhe and the girls can take heart from their display against ‘the big guns’ and we wish them well in their next outing on March 10th v Kilkenny.

Social Dancing.

Social dancing continues in the GAA clubhouse every Friday night with this week’s music provided by Moynihan Brothers.

Day Care Centre.

Portumna Day Care Centre will close on Monday march 4th due to Health and safety issues. The centre will remain closed for a period of time until all issues of concern have been resolved.

They were sent for a check up.

Paddy says, crafty b……’s caught me out, told me to close the door and I did.

Kerry mans says, I was too smart for that, I told them to close it themselves!.
