 LORRHA NOTES.


Recent Wedding.

The wedding took place on Saturday April 4th. in Terryglass Church of Anthony Slevin son of Peter and Carmel Lorrha and Helen Barry daughter of Elma Barry and of the late Denis Carrigahorig Terryglass.
The bride was attended by her sister Denise while her brother John escorted her to the altar. Bestman was Michael Slevin brother of the groom. Two year old Ciara Barry a niece of the bride and two year old Oisín Slevin nephew of the groom almost stole the limelight as they performed flower girl and page boy respectively. Father and son Richie and Darren Bourke provided the church music while Fr. Michael Cooney P.P. Terryglass was the main concelebrant assisted by Fr. Joe Kennedy P.P. Lorrha. Both the brides mother Elma and the grooms mother Carmel brought the offertory gifts to the altar. Afterwards the newly weds joined their families and friends for their reception which they held in the County Arms Hotel. They chose to honeymoon in New York and Jamacia.
Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Anthony and Helen for a long and happy life together as they settle down to married life in Carrigahorig.

Lorrha Development.

There was a great turn out at the A.G.M. of Lorrha Development held in Lorrha Hall last week. When the list of works carried out during the past year were outlined to the meeting all present could see that there was an enourmous amount achieved in that length of time. With the village looking very well over the winter month’s work never ceases regardless of the time of season and this is evident as one drives through. Officers elected for the forthcoming season are Chairperson: Rose Mannion Vice Chairpersons: Fr. Joe Kennedy David Power Liz Hussey Secretary: Louis McCormack Assistant Secretary: Mary Walsh Treasurer: Nancy White Development Officer: Harry Houlihan.
Lorrha Development offers it’s thanks to all who sold and bought the 2009 calendar which is just one of the fundraisers organised by the committee that helps to keep the village looking it’s best. The group are holding a very important meeting on Wednesday night May 6th. in Lorrha Hall at 8.00p.m. All are welcome.

Angling Club News.

Lorrha / Rathcabbin Angling club will hold the final round of the Pete Boylett perpetual cup in Portumna fishing club ground on Sunday 3rd. May from 2 to 6p.m.

“Suimhneas”.

North Tipperary cancer support centre “Suimhneas” is open in the Pastoral Centre Church Road Nenagh. This drop in centre will provide emotional support and practical help to people living with cancer and anyone affected by it. Opening times are Monday 10 – 2p.m. Tuesday 5p.m. -9p.m. and Wednesday to Friday 10a.m. to 2p.m. Phone (067) 73403.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the families and relatives of John Grogan late of Banagher and his wife Ann Hourigan late of Coolross who died on the 5th. and 8th. of April. May they rest in peace.

First Friday.

This coming Friday May 1st. is the First Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha church at 9.30 a.m. and in Rathcabbin Church at 8.00p.m. Confessions will be heard an half hour before Mass.

Volunteers Required.

Accord Nenagh the Diocesan agency for marriage and the family is looking for volunteers for its marriage Ed. Services. Qualities needed is the ability to relate easily to people / work as part of a team / develop at a personal level. The benefits are a valuable service to the community / excellent training / develop presentation and group facilitation skills. If interested you can attend an information night in Loreto House Kenyon St. Nenagh on Tuesday May 5th. at 7.30 p.m. or phone (067) 31272.

History Group.

A group has been formed with a interest in gathering and recording historical events with a view to eventually writing a book. Anyone that has any stories facts or photo’s contact David Broderick at (086) 3308172 or James Heenan on (087) 2031798. It is hoped to have a meeting in June. More details later.

Silver Circle Reminder.

Portumna Social services are holding their annual silver circle draw in aid of the Day Care centre over the next few weeks. Money collected forms essential part of the day to day running of the centre. The committee asks for your support.

Bealtaine Festival In Lorrha.

Bealtaine is the May-time festival celebrating creativity in older people. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association Lorrha are participating in this year’s celebrations to show that we are really ‘young at heart’ and that it is never too late to learn.
For the month of May the following events will take place:
Tuesday 5th May 2009 in Lorrha Community Hall from 2.15pm to 5.00pm approximately.
Lorrha National School Children will entertain us from 2.15pm to 3.00pm.
Followed by ‘I’ll live ’til I die’ – A celebration in Talk Story and Song of the iconic DELIA MURPHY. Talk by Aidan O’Hara of RTE fame. Songs by Joyce O’Hara. Carmen Cullen a niece of Delia Murphy will tell tales from Delia’s past. Organised by North Tipperary Arts Council.
Light refreshments will be served.
Sunday 31st May 2009 in Lorrha Community Hall from 10.30am to 5.00pm
There will be an Arts & Crafts Exhibition with a Cake Sale.
Light Refreshments will be served.
All events are open to everyone so do Please come and join us.
Also on Saturday 13th June 2009 there will be a Social Evening in Lorrha Community Hall from 9.00pm till late. Music will be provided by Richie Bourke and Pat Conlon. Light refreshments will be served.
