 LORRHA NOTES.

Confirmation.

Congratulations to the following children from the three schools in the parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in Lorrha on Sunday last. After a week of mostly rain and little in the way of sunshine the day came up warm and the sun shone too for the occasion.

Family Fun Day.

The Annual Family Fun Day on Sunday June 7th.in Lorrha will feature a dog show consisting of ten classes and an agility show. Registration starts at 12.30p.m Details from Lorraine on (087) 6221829.

Ducks on Sale.

Members of the Development committee are presently selling ducks for the annual duck race on the river during the fun day activities. Ducks cost €10 each and there are ten prizes ranging from €100 to €10. Please support. Also on sale is the very popular test your knowledge quiz sheet which this year is ‘Cities ‘n’ Places’. Entry fee here is €2 and there are 30 questions to be answered with a first prize of €100 and runner up gets €50.

Lorrha Development.

The next meeting of the association will take place on Tuesday night June 2nd. at 8.00p.m. in Lorrha hall. All members are requested to attend and anyone interested in the preparations for the family fun day.

Local Bus To Athlone.

A bus travels to Athlone on the First Friday of every month. It will depart from Portumna Square on June 5th. at 10.30 a.m. via Ballinasloe and will leave Athlone at 4.30 p.m. Travel pass accepted. Return fare is €5 under 18’s €3 and under 5’s travel free. To book call IRD at (090) 9741867.

Poster Free Village.

Lorrha Development Association thank all political parties for keeping the village poster free during this election campaign.

Na Calaí.

CDP’s health forum and Portumna’s mental health association in partnership with Portumna’s mental health services are holding an information session on Wednesday June 3rd. with input from Sue Curley and Donal Conlon. Summer Camp Reminder.

For two weeks July 6th. to 10th. and July 13th. to 17th. Little feet summer camp will take place for children aged from 2 to 12 years. Activities include football hurling badminton hockey bouncing castle parachute games swimming art cooking and lots more. Time from 9.30 am to 3.30 p.m. and the cost is €85 per week. Parent & Toddler.

The Rathcabbin Parent Toddler and Baby Group have organized Music and Dance sessions for Tuesday June 2nd and Tuesday June 9th from 11am – 12.30. Parents/grandparents/carers/childminders are welcome to come along with the children and have some fun! St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

Please note that there will be no meeting in the Clubhouse on Wednesday 27th May. Normal meetings will resume on Wednesday 3rd June.

The Annual May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continue at 8.00p.m.Sunday to Friday and Saturday’s at 7. p.m.

.National Pilgrimage.

St. Padre Pio National Pilgrimage to Holycross Abbey will take place on Sunday 31st. May from 1.30 to 4.00p.m.

Art & Crafts.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association are holding an Arts & Crafts Exhibition with a cake sale on Sunday coming 31st May in Lorrha Community Hall from 10.30am to 5.00pm. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
Also on Saturday 13th June 2009 there will be a Social Evening in Lorrha Community Hall from 9.00pm till late. Music will be provided by Richie Bourke and Pat Conlon. Light refreshments will be served.

Helplink South.

This is a non profit organisation with charitable status providing monitored alarm systems and taking care of older people aiming to restore confidence independence and peace of mind and encouraging people to remain in their own homes and be a member of their own community. A Fifties child his first sounds the Swing Jazz Show tunes of his parents generation. Then 50s Rock n Roll 60s pop and Motown Blues RnB and Country and Western. Through all this ran the potent flavour of Irish traditional music and song.
