Late Pamella Starr.

The death took place on Tuesday August 25th. in Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe of Pamella Starr Grange Lorrha.
A quiet inoffensive lady she didn’t enjoy good health for a number of years. She and her family moved from their home at the Ferry a few miles over the road where they bought a house in Grange a number of years ago. A well respected member of the local community she will be missed by them but in particular by her family. Sympathy is extended to her husband Benny children Kim Susan Wayne and Margaret sons and daughters in-law grandchildren neighbours and friends. After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church on Saturday last 29th. burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

First Friday.

This coming Friday 4th. is the first Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha church at 9.30a.m. and in Rathcabbin church at 8.00p.m. Confessions will be heard a half hour before Mass.

Lorrha Parent Toddler and Baby Group re-opens after the Summer holidays on Thursday 3rd September from 10.30am – 12 noon in Lorrha Community Centre.

Development Meeting.

Lorrha Development Association are holding a meeting this Thursday night September 3rd. at 8.00p.m. in Lorrha Hall. All are welcome.

Night Vigil.

There will be a night vigil to Knock Shrine on Saturday September 12th. (organised by Legion of Mary). Bus leaves Rathcabbin at 4.30p.m. Vigil is from 9.p.m. to 12 midnight. Cost is €20 child €10. Contact Gertie at (090) 9747080 or Betty at (057) 9139085.

School Of Dancing.

The Cassandra Kenny School of Dancing has now resumed in the Portumna town hall. For further information call (086) 8194655.

Premier Short Stories.

Tipperary Libraries are holding a ‘Premier Short Stories’ competition open to adult and senior cycle Secondary School students. All entries must be the original work of the author and between 2000 and 3000 words. Longevity or brevity will be eliminated from the competition. Stories can be submitted by email to thurles@tipperarylibraries.ie or on hard copy to your local library. The closing date is October 1st so get writing.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

Our Summer break is almost at an end. Hope all our members enjoyed the time with their families. Our weekly meetings commence on Wednesday 9th September at 2.30pm in the GAA Clubhouse Moatfield. New members are very welcome. There is transport available which will pick you up from your homes and take you back. Diary Reminder.

The Lourdes Diocesan Autumn Pilgrimage will leave Shannon Airport on Tuesday 22nd. September and return on Sunday 27th. Sept. The cost this year is €660. Fundraiser.

A fundraising Damien Ryan Memorial Poker Classic will take place on Friday night September 11th. in the Yanks Bar Borrisokane. Registration is at 9p.m. with a starting time at 9.30p.m. Admission €30. If you register before 9p.m. you will get 1000 extra chips. Prize money is €1500 pro rata. All proceeds will be presented to AWARE. People who do not wish to play will be entered into a draw for a stay in a four star hotel in Galway.

Recent Christening.

The christening of Arthur Edward Gill grandson of Whitten and Linda Gill son of Trevor and Verity Gill (Rathcabbin & London) was held in Dorrha Church on Sunday August 23rd. The service was conducted by Reverend Wayne Carney and was attended by family Godparents from both London and Dublin and the local parishioners. The organist was Peter Whyte and the flowers were beautifully arranged by Linda Gill. The service was then followed by coffee at Beechville accompanied by a beautiful christening cake made by Isobel Delahunt. The Gill family extend many thanks for all who attended and for making the day so special.

Golf Classic Thanks.

Frank Larkin wishes to offer his sincere thanks to all who supported the parish golf classic on Saturday last in Birr. Congratulations to Deirdre Lane on winning the Captains Prize with a great return of 43 points and also to Seamus Mannion who won the President’s prize. Well done to all. Frank had a great time and he is very thankful to all who made it such a wonderful day and night. He also received an anonymous donation of €200 and he extends his thanks to the individual involved. Frank will divide this donation €100 will go to Milford Hospice and €100 will go to Fr. Daly’s Christmas appeal.

Dangerous Surface Water.

Heavy rain during August is causing havoc with road users as flash flooding and heavy surface water is causing road accidents. As the wet weather is set to continue gardai are asking motorists to be extra careful and to watch out for such flooding.
