Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Tom Houlihan Lorrha and extended family members on the death of his brother Jack which took place last week in Kildare. May he rest in peace.

Poker Classic.

Lorrha Lord Mayor candidate David Power is holding a fundraising poker classic in Mahers The Friars Tavern Lorrha on Friday night March 12th. commencing at 9.00p.m. Tickets for poker players cost €30 with 1000 free chips to those who register before 9p.m. There is also a €5 ticket on sale for a draw which will take place on the night for a week-end away in Mayo. Proceeds to the renovation / development of the Friar’s Park in the village. Your support appreciated.

R.A.G.S.

The local golfing society RAGS are holding their Annual General Meeting in Mahers Lorrha on the 15th of March at 8 p.m. All are welcome.

Lorrha Lord Mayor candidate Teresa Dunne Walker wishes to thank everyone who supported her fundraising barn dance on Saturday night last. A special word of thanks to her hard working committee Mary Ann Barbara Deirdre Carmel and Tara for all their dedicated work throughout this campaign. The lucky winner of the week-end away in Killarney was Orla Kelly Portumna. Well done Orla and enjoy.

Congratulations to the twenty one young people from the parish who were confirmed by Bishop Willie Walsh during a Confirmation Ceremony in Our Lady Queen Of Ireland Church Rathcabbin on Saturday last.

Lorrha Community Alert.

The scheme of community support for older people whereby grants to improve the security of people in their homes has re-opened. The scheme is open to people over 65 years for purchase of socially monitored alarms smoke alarms external security lighting. Lorrha Lord Mayor Candidate Joe Dolan wishes to thank everyone who supported his fundraising poker classic in Noonan’s of Ballingarry on Friday night last and many thanks to Noonan’s for hosting the event. Congratulations is extended to the winner Mary Molloy (Rathcabbin). The 2nd. prize winner was Jimmy Noonan and Joe offers thanks to Jimmy who very kindly donated his winnings back into the fund. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the night a success. Joe wishes to extend sympathy to the Houlihan family on the death of Jack last week.

Lorrha Lord Mayor Candidate Joe Dolan is holding a Texas Hold ‘Em to be held in Lyon’s The Railway Bar in Banagher this Thursday night March 11th. at 9.00p.m. Players who register before 9p.m. will get 1000 free chips. Your support appreciated.

Monster Auction.

Joe Dolan rounds off his fundraising campaign for Lord Mayor of Lorrha with an Monster Auction and Country market to be held in McCormacks of Abbeyville on Saturday March 13th. at 4.30p.m. Please note change of date. Going under the auctioneers hammer will be Turf timber farm animals farm produce free lawn cut free fencing. Afterwards there will be music and craic with a party atmosphere to round up the fundraising for this candidate and all are welcome to join Joe for his last pitch to become Lord Mayor of Lorrha. Proceeds from all events to the renovation / development of Friars Park in the village. Your support appreciated.

St Patricks Parade and Fun Day in Rathcabbin

Rathcabbin Development Association are organising a St Patricks Parade and Fun Day in Rathcabbin on SUNDAY 14th March. The parade will kick off at 2 pm. All floats will be greatly welcomed with no entry fee and the judging panel of Cllr Michael O Meara Tipperary Senior Hurler Patrick Maher and Gentleman Farmer Pat Smyth will award prizes for best entries. Tug o war and weight throwing competitions will follow for the strong men and women of the parish and beyond while the athletes can contest the bed race. The children can look forward to fire juggling with Jack Flash face painting a magic show in Kelly’s and a childrens disco. Evening entertainment will include “Nashville” and all Irish disco with DJ Ray. So come along for a great day out for all the family.

Rathcabbin Questionnaire

Rathcabbin Development Association are currently circulating a questionnaire in roughly the Rathcabbin electoral area to get people’s views on what amenities we should look to develop in the village and surrounds. Your opinion is very important to us. The group would be grateful if you could fill in the questionnaire and either leave it into the box in Kelly’s or we will try to collect them in the next week or so.

The Winner Takes It All.

The winner of the Lord Mayor of Lorrha fundraising competition will be officially announced and the respective winner will receive the chain of “office” at a function in St. Ruadhan’s Community hall in the village on Saturday night March 20th. The winner will be deemed to be the person who has raised the most money which in this instance is for the development of the Friar’s Park in the village. Live music with Denis Doyle from 9.30p.m. to 12.30p.m. and refreshments will be served on the night. The draw for the €2 lines that each candidate has on sale will also take place and the good news is admission is free of charge. Lorrha Development Association invites all and in particular everyone who gave of their time and financial support to the respective candidates during all of their fundraising efforts over the last number of months and this is the Development’s way of thanking all of you. So do come along and enjoy a great night out without any expense. Where else would you be treated to a night’s entertainment free of charge?

Kilbarron Players.

Kilbarron Players present “Fortunes and Misfortunes” by Jimmy Keary in Kilbarron Hall on Friday night March 19th. through to Sunday night 21st. and the group are back on stage the following week-end 27th. 28th. at 8.00p.m. Produced by Marian Frawley this is a great comedy and you wont regret going along to see it.
