Lorrha Notes

Congratulations is extended to Megan O’Meara who won a Under 16 Munster Medal On Sunday last with the Tipp team.  Well done Megan.

Late Teresa (Cissy) Burke.

The death occurred on Friday July 16th. in Nenagh general hospital of Teresa Burke Kilgask Lorrha.
Known throughout her long life as Cissy she would have celebrated her 90th. birthday in October had she lived. A well liked and much respected member of the community Cissy lived with her brother Mikey who predeceased her 22 years ago and her nephew P.J. and his family. One of life’s characters Cissy had a quick wit and all who knew her will have fond memories indeed. Her door was always open to callers and the kettle on the boil as she loved the chat and could converse on many a subject. She was a hard worker over the years both on the farm and in the house but this work was a labor of love as she was always in good humor. Another love was her flower garden where she would have a great splash of color throughout the summer months. Enjoying good health throughout her long life it was only in the last twelve month’s or so that it began to deteriorate. The last of a family of four she will be fondly remembered but sadly missed by all who knew her but in particular by her family. Sympathy is extended to all her nephew’s but in particular to P.J. (Coughlan) his wife Margaret and their son Shane sister in-law MB nieces grandnieces grandnephews great-grandnieces and great – grandnephew cousins relatives friends and neighbors. After concelebrated funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Sunday last 18th. Cissy was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Danny Reddin Lackeen on the death of his sister Mary (Byrne) Naas after a short illness. Pre-deceased by her husband Ned in recent month’s she is survived by her sons daughters sister Rita (Downey) nieces nephews grandchildren and relatives. After funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church Eadestown on Saturday morning 17th. burial took place in the local cemetery. May she rest in peace.

St. Swithen’s Day.

Thursday 15th. July was St. Swithen’s day. Tradition has it that if it rained on this day then it would rain for the following 40 day’s and if the sun shone on that day then it would follow on that the sun would shine for 40 day’s. Here in the parish of Lorrha & Dorrha we had a rather mixed bag with rain at times throughout the day and at times the sun tried to break through. Is this then what we can expect over 40 days? Lets hope it’s not with so may holidaying here and the nations children on their summer break.

Munster Success.

We extend congratulations to Megan O’Meara Redwood on winning a Munster Medal with the Tipp under 16 girls when they beat Clare on Sunday last in the final held in Nenagh. Well done Megan. Congratulations is also extended to Patrick “Bonner” Maher Rathcabbin and the Tipp senior team who are through to the quarter finals. We wish Patrick and the team all the best this Sunday v Galway. Commiserations to Elaine Hough and Caoimhe Kennedy Rathcabbin who with the Tipp Intermediate team bowed out of the All-Ireland championship when they lost out to a strong Limerick side.
