Recent Wedding.

The wedding took place on Friday July 30th. in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin of Valenda Hogan daughter of Marilyn and Sean Ballyoughter Rathcabbin and Conor Leenane son of Rum and of the late Joan Ballinderry.
The bride was attended by her sisters Amanda Leona and her best friend Avril Keane while the bestman was Brian Leenane brother of the groom while his cousins Donal and Niall were groomsmen. The brides four year old nephew Lee Hogan was pageboy. The ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Leenane a cousin of the groom assisted by Fr. Michael Cooney (Terryglass) and Fr. John Donnelly A.P. (Rathcabbin). The brides mother Marilyn and the grooms father Rum brought the offertory gifts to the altar. Afterwards the newly weds joined with their families and friends for their reception in Dooly’s Hotel Birr before flying out to Lanzarotte for their honeymoon.
Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Valenda and Conor for a long and happy life together as they settle down to married life in Ballinderry.

Golf News.

R.A.G.S. the local golf club’s next golf outing is in Thurles golf club on the 14th August. Tee time 9.30 – 10.30.

Month’s Memory.

A month’s mind Mass for the late Cissie Burke Kilgask will be celebrated in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Friday night 13th. at 8.00p..

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the relatives of the late Bridget Kehily Portland Lorrha who died on Saturday August 7th. In Portumna Retirement Village. Bridget was wife of the late Garda Sgt. Matt Kehily and was sister of the late Mansie Stronge. After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Monday last burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is also extended to the family and relatives of the late Christopher Moore Borrisokane and late of Lorrha. After funeral Mass in Borrisokane on Sunday last burial took place. May they rest in peace.

Ordination.

The ordination ceremony of Fr. Kieran O’Reilly in Ennis Cathedral will take place on Sunday August 29th. at 3.00p.m. Anyone who is interested in attending the ceremony is asked to contact Fr. Joe as soon as possible please. Our parish has been allocated seven tickets for the ceremony.

Pilgrimage.

Bishop elect Mgs. Kieran O’Reilly will lead the Autumn Pilgrimage from the diocese to Lourdes from Monday 27th. September to Saturday 2nd. October. Holycross Outing.

The Annual Pilgrimage to Holycross will take place on Wednesday 18th. August. Mass at 3.00p.m. with confessions and stations beforehand. Meal and social afterwards in the Abbeycourt Hotel. This will be Bishop Willie Walsh’s final visit with the group. Names as soon as possible to Nancy White (090) 9747922 or to Betty Houlihan (057) 9139085. The cost for the day is E20. Bus will leave Rathcabbin at 12 noon and from Lorrha at 12.15p.m.

Final Reminder.

A history outing will take place to the battle of Aughrim centre and to Clonmacnois on Saturday August 14th. Bus will leave Lorrha at 9.00a.m. sharp and return at 5.30p.m. The cost will be €20 per head to cover bus and admission charges plus tea in Aughrim. A meeting will be held on return from the outing to form a committee for the history group. Bog Tour.

Redwood Castle will hold a tapestry of the bog on Sunday August 15th. meeting at the Friars Tavern at 11.30a.m. The tour will be led by Mary McGeeney who will take the journey through Lorrha antiquities and Curragha bog. There will be a complimentary tour of Redwood Castle included. Cost will be adults €10 €2 children. For further information contact (087) 7479566.

We extend the best of luck to Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher and the Tipperary team when they take on Waterford in the All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final this coming Sunday. And if the get over this hurdle they will be up against the cats in the final.

Lorrha Development Association wish to extend get well wishes to it’s member Carmel Lewis Houlihan who is presently recovering from an operation in Ballinasloe Hospital. You are wished a speedy recovery Carmel.

Work Evening.

Work evenings continue in and around Lorrha Village on this Thursday evening from 7.00p.m. Assemble outside the hall and help is always welcome so show your civic pride in helping to improve the appearance of our lovely historical village.
