The Parish of Lorrha are this week supporting one of their own Patrick ‘Bonner’Maher and the Tipperary Senior Hurling team when they take on Kilkenny on Sunday coming September 5th. in Croke Park.  The parish wish Bonner and Tipp the very best of luck.  UP TIPP!!  
                                                 
The banner at the top of the page (under Giant man) was made and erected by Declan Hogan Templemore (formerly Roden Rathcabbin) and it now stands proudly on the Roscrea to Templemore Road. Well done Declan and Eileen and remember you will have to add to it for brother Ken and the under 21’s!!!!!
Harry loads up the car in a practice run to see how many he can fit in for the trip to Croker on Sunday.   
This giant man by Tom Duffy is drawing huge interest from all over as car loads of people pull up to admire this piece of superb work. Tom is pictured here with Bonner’s friends neighbors and supporters as they catch the Bonner Fever….

Late Bridie Corrigan.

The death occurred in Essex England recently of Bridie Corrigan (nee Galvin) formally of Co. Clare and wife of Tommy Corrigan Lorrha. Sympathy is extended to her husband Tommy son Colin daughter Yvonne grandchildren son in-law daughter in-law brothers sisters brothers in-law Paddy Corrigan (Lismacrory) Eddie (England) sister in law Mary (Co. Meath) relatives and friends.
Funeral will arrive in Lorrha on Saturday September 4th. for Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church at 11.00am and burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Late Felim O’Doherty.

The peaceful death occurred on Sunday August 22nd. Of Felim O’Doherty Lorrha after a long illness. The second eldest in a family of four Felim was 68 years of age. After finishing school in Lorrha he attended Newbridge College where he excelled in Rugby as a member of the Junior cup team and progressing to the Leinster schoolboys team. Sport was his passion and he went on to play with Dundalk and on his return to the parish he played with Nenagh and Birr where he also trained. He togged out with Lorrha GAA in 1956 and again in 57 and he also served as a selector for the senior team. He trained the Lorrha Athletic club for a number of years too. With a degree in Agriculture and Science he went to work with Carton Brothers of Manor Farm but in 1975 he returned to Lorrha and set up his own business rearing chickens which was to prove a success for him. Very much involved on many committee’s he was a founder member of Lorrha Development Association and served as first chairman twenty five years ago where many projects were undertaken and completed under his term of office. Indeed he was of immense assistance to the group when he helped with the planting of the Friars Close tree’s in 2008. He was also Captain of Portumna Golf club and served as President in 2005 as well as serving on the Lorrha Parish Council.
A guard of honor was provided by Lorrha Development Association GAA club and Parish Council on the arrival of his remains to St. Ruadhan’s Church on Monday evening the 23rd. where the church was packed to overflowing. After concelebrated funeral Mass the following morning which was offered by Fr. Joe Kennedy P.P. assisted by Fr. Jim Foley Fr. John Donnelly and Fr. Abe Kennedy burial took place in St. Ruadhan’s cemetery.
Sympathy is extended to his wife Pearl daughters Marion and Anne-Marie (London) Shane (Carlow) daughter in-law Arleen sisters Jacinta Power (Lorrha) Jean Bauress (Dublin) grandchildren Jake and Emma extended family relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

On Wednesday 8th September 2010 there is a Health Day in the Perys Hotel Limerick. Anyone interested in attending please let Nancy White know as soon as possible on 090 9747922. Travel arrangements will be sorted out later this week.
Fr. Joe Kennedy was one of the people who started the Active Retirement Association in Lorrha 5 years ago. As a little thank you to Fr Joe who will be returning for the afternoon St. Ruadhans Active Retirement Association are having a little get together of all members on Thursday 16th September 2010 in the Shed Friars Tavern Lorrha starting at 4.00pm. Full details will be sent out to all members early next week. The Social afternoon that was planned for 22nd September has now been cancelled due to our function on Thursday 16th September.
Wednesday 22nd September will be our first normal meeting of the Autumn season. Our weekly sessions are held in St. Ruadhans Community Hall Lorrha each Wednesday afternoon from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Pilgrimage.

We welcome to our parish Fr. Pat Mulcahy P.P. who comes to us from Dunkerrin/Moneygall. We hope Fr. Pat that you have an enjoyable and fulfilling stay in our parish.

Best of luck to Bonner (Patrick Maher) and the Tipp team on Sunday coming when they take on Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. It’s great to see so much effort given to decorating the parish in support of our parish man. Bonner’s aunt Carmel and family in Lorrha have painted a car for the big occasion and decorated their houses too in a sea of blue and gold.
We hope there will be much to celebrate on Sunday evening.
