Congratulations is extended to Lorrha Development Association who were presented with an Endeavour Award at the Shannon Region awards night held recently in Bunratty. John Rose Mary and Bridget accepted the award and a cheque for E500 from Dr. Vincent Cunnane Chief Exucitive Shannon Development Peter Power Minister of State at the dept of Foreign Affairs Leonard Fay Regional Manager SuperValu.
Lorrha gained the highest points in North Tipperary 18 overall and they also presented the best improved lay out for future planning.  Well done to the Lorrha Development workers.

Church News.

Cemeteries: Prayers for the faithful departed in Bonoham Cemetery on Sunday coming 14th. after 11.30am Mass and in Lorrha Cemetery on Sunday 21st. November after 10.30am. Mass.
A Bereavement Mass will be held in Lorrha Church on Tuesday November 16th. at 7.30p.m.

Recent Wedding.

The wedding took place on Saturday October 30th. in Carrig Church of Ellen King daughter of Chris and of the late Bernard Clonmona Rathcabbin and Seamus Kenny son of Mary and of the late Pat Dunkerrin.
The bride was attended by two of her very good friends Caroline Tierney and Stella Moran while the grooms two brothers John and Padraig were bestman and groomsman respectively. Two little flowergirls Enya Hogan niece of the groom and Rachel Crowley friend carried out their duties very well for the lovely occasion. Celebrant was Fr. Michael Harding cousin of the bride assisted by Fr. Pat Mulcahy P.P. Lorrha while the beautiful church music was provided by Virtuoso Chamber Choir. Both the mother of the bride Chris and the grooms mother Mary brought the offertory gifts to the altar.
Afterwards the newlyweds joined with their families and friends for their reception which was held in The County Arms Hotel Birr before flying off to New Zealand which they chose as their honeymoon destination.
Congratulations and many good wishes is extended to Ellen and Seamus for long life and happiness as they settle down to married life in Cooraclevin Dunkerrin.

Green School.

The pupils of Lorrha National School recently applied for their second green flag the theme of which is Energy. Following on from the success of the first flag which was raised earlier this year the pupils are determined to keep the green flags flying and are hopeful that come early next year their efforts will be rewarded. Already all the classes have become conscious of energy savings throughout the school and in their homes where in this economic climate never before has energy and sayings become so important. We wish the pupils every success and hope they achieve their second green flag.

Parent’s Seminar Reminder.

‘Toxic Childhood’. North Tipperary County Childcare Committee are hosting a parent’s seminar on Saturday 13th. November in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh. The seminar will focus on the developmental needs of children. The speaker on the day is Sue Palmer author of “Toxic Childhood”. The cost is E5. Retirement Function.

A Mass of thanksgiving for the retirement of Mrs. Nancy Liffey former teacher of Rathcabbin N.S. will take place in Rathcabbin Church on Friday night November 12th. at 8.00p.m. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. All are welcome.

Community Nursing Unit.

A public meeting to progress the provision of the Community Nursing Unit and Elderly Day Care Centre in Borrisokane will be held in The Yanks Borrisokane on Thursday night the 11th. at 8.00p.m. All interested are invited to attend. Contact Louis at (086) 8493595.

Long Tail Pheasant Competition.

Lorrha/Rathcabbin gun club held their long tail pheasant competition in Mahers. The long tail was won by Jack Maher with a bird of 39 inches. Many thanks to Denis and Lil for providing hot food afterwards.

Game Night

Lorrha/Rathcabbin gun club in conjunction with Mahers Lorrha are holding a game night on Saturday 20th. November. A banquet of game such as venison pheasant duck boar rabbit and fish will be prepared by Denis and other local chefs. Banquet is free and all are welcome. There will also be a disco on the night. Anyone that wants to contribute any home baking is welcome.

Lorrha Development.

Lorrha Development Association wishes to extend thanks to all who helped them in whatever way over the spring and summer months to achieve the Tidy Towns Endeavor Award. Members of the group traveled to Bunratty last week where they were presented with the award during the Regional Awards Ceremony.

A Wake In The West.

Set in a small fishing community on Clew Bay A Wake In The West tells the story of the life – and passing – of Joe Healy a man who drank himself to death. Carrying out his last request causes problems for his family problems that are compounded by the arrival of his son from America after an absence of five years. Themes touched upon include poverty economic instability alcohol abuse unrequited love and fear of the Church.
The hilarious string of events is brought to life by an excellent cast of a play which is written by Michael J Ginnelly and directed by Jim Hynes from nearby Portumna as he puts the Lorrha Variety Group through their paces. The play will be staged in Lorrha Hall from the 26th. to the 28th. November inclusive.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement.

We would like to remind our members of upcoming events before Christmas. There is a tea dance in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh on Sunday 14th November from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Music is provided by Pat and Richie. Admission is €5. Also on Sunday 5th December the Regional Christmas lunch and party is taking place in the Woodlands Hotel Adare. Tickets on sale at €25. Our trip to Punchestown Races which was to take place on Saturday 13th November has now been cancelled.
The committee and members would like to offer their sincere sympathy to Betty Houlihan Rathcabbin and Eileen Carroll Roscrea and their families on the recent death of their sister in law Hildegarde Deroe who died recently in Germany. Also to Tom and Billy Dagg and their families on the recent death of their sister May Robinson who died recently in Portarlington. May they rest in peace.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Eamon Smyth Clonmona on the occasion of his 50th. birthday. Eamon celebrated the occasion recently with family and friends in The County Arms Hotel Birr. Well done Eamon.

Gratitude

Liam Mannion and the twenty two members of the Ardara Hillwalking Club wish to extend thanks to Theresa Dunne Walker and staff of the Ferry Inn Lorrha for their hospitality on Sunday last. The group were guests of Theresa and her staff on Sunday morning while en route to a four hour walk in the Portumna Forest Park. The early morning refreshments were much appreciated by all. Thanks Theresa.
