Liam and Ronan King were the first in the parish to harvest their crop of Cassia Winter Barley early last week.

Youth Summer Festival.

Cistercian College, Roscrea, from Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th August, 2014.  For young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people.  This festival has been nicknamed the “Holy Oxygen” with over 1000young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year.  The festival is donation only.  Free buses available from towns throughout Ireland. Colm celebrated his First Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr on Sunday July 6th.  

Date For Your Diary.

Lorrha Development Association / Tidy Towns will make a contribution from the sale of the clothing collection, which has proven to be so successful, to North Tipperary Hospice during a BBQ in Louis and Kathleen McCormack’s pub in Abbeyville on Friday night August 22nd.  Any donations from the night will also go directly to North Tipp Hospice.  We invite all, especially all our many and wonderful, loyal helpers, supporters and sponsors who have worked with us throughout the years and which is much appreciated by us.  We look forward to meeting you all on the 22nd.  More details to follow.

 Summer De-Clutter.

Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Summer collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep three adults employed.

Recent Christening.

Many congratulations is extended to  Lynda and Brendan Ryan, Annagh who christened their new addition to the family recently. A little sister Jessica for big sister Abbie to play with. Well done all and to the extended Naylor and Ryan families.

Taste of Lough Derg.

Music Event.

A Ferry Fest at the Ferry Inn Bar and restaurant Lorrha (beside Portumna Bridge) will be held on Saturday night July 19th from 10am. Theresa and Barry are moving their popular Saturday night music slot outside and will hold a B.B.Q along with the music. This is a free event and all are invited to attend.

50th Birthday Celebrations.  

Congratulations and many good wishes is extended to Eugene Sullivan, Lords Park and Birr who celebrated his 50th birthday last week-end. There was great craic in Kelly’s Rathcabbin on Saturday night for the occasion. Well done Eugene.

Lorrha Camogie Notes.  

LIT Munster Summer League: The Lorrha girls have played 5 games in the Munster League with one loss, 3 wins and one draw will play in the Shield Final against Newport next weekend probably on Saturday the 19th, details not confirmed. Best of Luck to team and management County Scene: Hard Luck to Caoimhe Kenendy and the Tipperary Senior Camogie panel who lost out bravely to Offaly on Saturday in the Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship. Sadly that ends Tipperary’s involvement in the Championship for 2014. Full time score from the Senior All Ireland championship match Tipperary 1-11 Offaly 0-17. Well done to Lorrha’s Celine Cleary who was playing centre foward for the Tipperary U15 Camogie team on Saturday in a blitz in Dublin in which they got to the final. Well done Celine! Well done also to Michelle Mannion who was playing with the Tipperary U14 Panel on Saturday in a blitz in Dublin in which they reached the Semi final. Well done to Bonner Maher and the Tipperary Hurling team at the weekend beating Offaly. Well deserved Man of the match.

Family Fun Day.

Borrisokane Community Sports Field will hold a “Family Fun Day” at the sports grounds beside the new secondary school.Free entry with lots to do such as pony rides, bouncy castles wheel of fortune, cake sale, dress for less,etc. We will also have race events ,penalty shoots out and prizes for the kids.We ask you to come along and bring all the family. A great days entertainment is guaranteed. All funds will go to the development of the field.
